I already have a Prism. Bought as a packable “emergency” layer for biking, it soon became my go-to jacket.

I was thinking of another – or even something potentially a little warmer and saw the Flux.

I was wondering if anyone had experience of both and could provide some feedback on warmth, finish, features, packability etc.

    TIA

Both basically the same jacket. There seems to be a Flux Mk1 and Mk2 mind.
The warmth of the Flux *is* noticeable – ace as a sitting around/belay/instructing top, too warm when (properly) moving most of the time.
Are you after one? email me 😉

i had a prism but looked at the flux first, the difference is the amount of insulation, prism is 40g and 80g on the chest, the flux is 100g body and 60g hood with thicker insulation on the chest pocket, the flux is warmer and doesnt pack down as small

now looking for a resolute smock for winter!

druidh – Flux is a lot warmer than a Prism and more volume too. The real question is what will you use it for? Can you cope with extra weight and bulk for the extra warmth?

niloC – The Resolute Smock is an extreme version of the Extreme Smock so great for Arctic adventures or working in silly low temps in very cold places. Not as breathable due to the Epic fabric outer (pertex is a lot more breathable) so will feel warmer

Bought a Prism and liked it, but it was slightly too small so sent it back and got a refund because I decided I didn’t really need one, but now it’s gone cold I want one again. What size flux have you got Matt? Only if Druidh doesn’t want it obviously.

If you want a very warm belay coat the Keela Belay jacket is stupidly good value

I’ve got both! Really good jackets.

As others have said, Flux is a fair bit warmer and much bulkier. Flux sizes up a bit bigger too. Flux has extra chest pocket and Velcro cuffs.

    depends what for

I’ve worn my prism pretty much every day for the past 4 years and i love it, find its not too hot, not too cold for most things.

I wouldnt sit on a winter belay in it.
I wouldnt wear it when riding my bike.

but for everything else inbetween its the one piece of clothing that just works.
    It looks smart too.
    …oh and great pockets 🙂
