Anyone use one? I use goggle play currently with some sonos fives, and whilst I like the ease of use, they don’t sound fantastic, I’ve noticed onkyo, denon etc make mini receivers , Any one use one? What speakers? Thanks

Interesting, would have thought a couple of Sonos Play 5s (v2) as a stereo pair would be decent sound quality? Is that your set up?

Was tempted by the Naim Muso before a few reviews were putting Play 5 stereo pair above it in terms of sound quality and am subsequently looking at this route.

Hadn’t considered something like the Piccolo. Interested in more useful responses to your question than my own…

Don’t get me wrong, I love the convenience of sonos, I have version 1 5s by the way,but find they lack the depth of ‘proper’ speakers, I could buy a connect, but think they are ridiculously over priced

the problem with Sonos is the quality of the wiring/components they use is just not up to producing accurate reproduction, its ok if you just want a bit of background noise but its not really a proper sound system

I’ve got a Denon Piccolo (previous version with the iPod dock). It’s great. I had some Sonos kit a while ago so vaguely know the sound quality and the Denon seems a lot better. Think the fact you don’t have to spend a fair wedge to get stereo makes it the better option for me.

Obviously not as neat as you need receiver and speakers but that helps with flexibility, plus I can just drop the iPod onto it.

Bought a set of studio monitors and a digital analogue convertor, sweet sound with real depth, can be hard wired to DAC from PC/Mac or bluetooth, works from TV too.

Any idea whether a set of old Rogers LS 3/5A speakers could be used in a similar way? I listen to Spotify or music from NAS on Sonos Play 5, but have these speakers gathering dust and wonder whether they could be part of a set up now.

I use iThingies so use apple airplays dotted around the place using the 3.5mm audio out into some very tidy cheap d class amps £35-£40 and then in to my old tannoy 607 and also some Linn Sweetspot bathroom speakers.

I have older airplays with the radio’s turned off but hard wired to my network, as well as newer airplays that provide the wifi network and AirPlay points. Got three so far.

YMMV with what you call nice audio quality but this works well for me.

I use the following as a cheap setup –
    Denin/mission MS50 speakers (ebay s/h £40)
SMSL T amp (think it was £40)
    Jongo A2 wifi thing (£17)
Works well and gives hifi noise, I am no audiophile but for a £100 it’s unbelievable
