He’s a distant relative of a mate of mine.

    He’s a miserable bastard too.

My mate, not Parky. Well, Parky’s a miserable bastard too oh bollocks to it.

Charlie Brooker made some good comments on his newswipe prog last week too. At least some people have some sense.

    Ou, I like that :

“the perfect victim of our times…brought up in a cesspit of poverty and died to an orchestrated chorus of exploitation”.

You sound a bit bolshie there Parky 🙂

    .

I went to Parky’s son’s first holy communion Rudeboy – but only because my cousin was doing his at the same time in the same church.
Does that mean we’re in some way related ? Me and Parky that is.

as a child came to know both drugs and crime, was barely educated

I understood that she was “barely educated” as she had to spend a good deal of her childhood looking after her mum. Bit of a easy target..dead people…don’t remember Parky being being quite so outspoken when she was alive.

Parky seems to have it about right, I’d say. Charlie Booker’s piece on Newswipe was also excellent.

Good to see someone putting things into perspective.

Parkinson’s a dinosaur who thinks changing nappies is only women’s work, test cricket is still somehow important, blah blah blah…he’s just the acceptable face of grumpy old men. And what he said was nothing that wasn’t said a thousand times by intelligent commentators.

I’m glad I don’t have to listen to the miserable hoor on the radio or TV anymore. And yes Parky, more people DID want to watch MoTD than your “insightful” interviews.

a media chattel to be manipulated and exploited

    LOL LOL at Parky!

He’s founded his entire career on manipulating and exploiting media chattels like film stars and soap actors

And of course he himself has been exploited as a media chattel by his agents and production companies

But then professional Yorkshiremen are not famous for self-awareness

Brave? No. Insightful? No. True? Yes, probably. A new idea? No.

Parky made his multi millions doing fawning interviews with people who often come from rubbish backgrounds and sell themselves to the public at every opportunity. I guess these ‘stars’ selling themselves on film in the cinema instead of via video on TV somehow cancels out the magazine shoot sales and the product promotions carefully shown only in Japan and the interviews done with Parky for the sole purpose of pushing the latest film or ‘autobiography’. Parkinson is part of the exploitation system himself both as user and used, so one can only laugh at his fantasy elitism and lack of self awareness.

gg, I just got that…funny! Jeez, I was being a bit on the grumpy side wasn’t I!! Irony’s way beyond my limitations though.

Charlie Brooker managed to aim the critism at the press rather than sticking the boot into someone who’s just died. I do agree with what Parky’s said, but Jade Goody’s a media creation who probably made the most of what she got

Well I’ve not read the Radio Times article but I didn’t see anything in the BBC article that consituted sticking to boot into Jade.

If this country’s a cess pit run by the media, why is he contributing to it with this article?

Having said that, I do find myself agreeing with him – the media built her up, knocked her down and then built her up again when they knew she would sell papers.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that the media is bought & paid for by the proles…

Agree with DDarcy and Eldridge here – Parky has just raised his profile by trading off her death. He’s as bad or worse than much of the media machine he claims to loathe.

He’s just a middle-class snob basically, like a lot of you lot.

    gonefishin – From Yahoo news….
He added: “When we clear the media smokescreen from around her death, what we’re left with is a woman who came to represent all that’s paltry and wretched about Britain today.”

she was exploited by the media? another so called celbrity who used the media when it suited her, and fair play, she’ll have left her kids a fair amount to be comfortable for the rest of their lives.

Why is Parky even commenting on it anyway, surely he would have been the first one to ask “what is she famous for?” – oh and Parky, next time you’ve got a book to hock, let’s remember your views on the media that helps you sell it to menopausal women
