    Hi folks,

Is there another way up than the track that goes up from Ryvoan bothy?

    Cheers

There’s another track that starts round at the visitor centre opposite the Glenmore campsite

Cheers folks. Will investigate that. I usually hike a bike up from Ryvoan so will make a change going up from there. Is it rideable?

If anything its less rideable than the Ryvoan route. I also think the Ryvoan path is a poorer descent.

Thanks Spin. Will probably climb up from Ryvoan and descend down to Glenmore.

It’s not a great ride either way IMHO

Push up from ryvoan, ride all the tops across and then descend to the badaguish xc course? Done that a few times some interesting riding.

I did the Craigowrie descent to Badaguish last year and found the track down to be horrendously marshy. Quite a disappointing descent given the effort required to get up to the ridge from Ryvoan.

I’ve ridden the ridge and down to Badaguish a few times. It’s OK but not a classic and really only worthwhile (or indeed justifiable) after a drought.

I’ve ridden MaB dozens of times but agree it isn’t really a great ride on its own. Nice views though and good as part of a longer day taking in Rothiemurchus and Badaguish. Also good for doing laps on as 3peaks CX training!

You can ride up to where the stone pitched steps start. After that, it is a carry. I like to head up to the summit then ride along the ridge. When I last did it two years ago, it was pretty much bog free. You just need to chose a dry spell or a hard frozen ground day.

I rode Cnap Coire Na Spreidh last week. I loved it. There is some really nice singletrack along the shoulder. I cut off just after what remains of the plantation. I should have cut off just before. It’s a bit boggy from the lochan up onto the shoulder of the small rise on the way to the mid car park but it was over very quickly. I really enjoyed it having been up MacDui and Cairngorm earlier in the ride. I had no real expectations so the singletrack came as a very pleasant surprise. I just wish it extended down to Ryvoan. Perhaps a petrol strimmer is required? 😀

    Cheers
