After yet another struggle in the cold and dark to remove a filthy chain, I’ve decided I need a pair of these.
Are they universal? Any recommendations/must avoids?

    thanks.

I have a KMC one – good for 9 & 10 speed. Probably works well with others.

I’ve got a set of the KMC removal ones – make life much easier compared to my previous home-made contraption made with a bent clothes hanger.

I have the Park ones. Ok they are a lazy mans tool for non cleaners of chains but for a tenner they make life jolly easy on the odd occasion of a sticky master link.

I got a set of pliers from poundland a while ago. One of them is a needle nose job. Put each end in a vice individually and shape the prongs to the shape of the expensive KMC etc… ones. Works a treat.

Poundshop circlip pliers – slightly modded. I never normally buy cheap tools, but in this instance it seems to work.

Another Park user here. Turns a sometimes frustrating job into a 2 second easy one.

Was given a pair of Fatspanners finest to use in the workshop when they were introduced, and in fairness, they’ve been faultless. Pretty cheap too.
