Jamie, maybe a bit more like this

In Arsenal/Arsene’s case, it’s a big fat nope. He has final say.

Which all will have been agreed and written down. Or he could use one of these new fangled things

It’s not the first time that a player has been given a bit of extra fitness work to do in pre-season.
But to buy two new left backs in the same summer that he signed,
change the system to no full backs needed,
and then spend £60 million on a new left wing back
    – that’s just bullying the fat kid.

Javier Hernandez joins Real Madrid from Man Utd

Strange decision for both teams IMO

@weeksy – Real (lost 4-2 at the weekend) are following the same strategy as Man U, they have to outscore their opponents to win a game so buy more forwards.

@binners my £10 bet with you (and JY) not finishing in the top 4 isn’t looking so daft so far is it ?

@jamie that’s the right formation for Man U if De Gea is playing center forward.

Yes, but buying an extra forward doesn’t help their cause IMO, they’ve got enough attacking options.

…Man U must be getting very near to the limits of FFP now.

but they’d have to qualify for Europe for that to become an issue!

Well on our present form, then it looks like a banker, yes. But then did you watch Arsenal yesterday? Or Spurs? Neither of those are looking top 4 either. Then theres City still doing what they did at the start of last season, and throwing games against lower teams. And Evertons defence looking nearly as shambolic as ours? We’re not the only ones not performing. So you never know

    I’m not confident though, no.

FFP is a function of turnover, MUFC has more turnover than MCFC, PSG etc

@binners, I am a Spurs fan so I decided the coverage was not on at a convenient time having seen the result 😥

You made the right decision. If Sterling hadn’t bizarrely decided that he wanted to try and walk every ball into the net, it could have been 5+. And you never looked remotely like scoring.

Hate to say it but Liverpool looked good. And once Ballotelli remembers where the net is… EEK! 😯

I’m going to have to bookmark this thread.

I had to laugh at Sterlings run/dribble…

I cringed at a coulpe of Balo’s misses though !

I think Balotelli will find the target soon enough. But who knows.

I realise it’s easy to joke about a miss when you’ve just won 3-0 but Rodgers’ “…he ran it into the box like Ricky Villa and finished it like Ricky Gervais” about Sterling’s miss made me smile. 🙂

I am beginning to feel a little bit sorry for the arsenal supporters. Their cheapest season ticket now over £1k, but after the FA cup win last season and the promise to spend money on big name players they probably had real hope that they would kick on and be real challengers this season, but they’re still missing the same type of players they’ve been lacking for the past 3 seasons. Still the shareholders will be chuffed at another 4th place finish. I’m amazed that Arsenal supporters are letting Wenger get away with it.

    I don’t believe they are.

They just cannot tell him to his face, as he is doing God’s work in Rome.

Good comment on the BBC transfer day feed; for all those saying a striker is the last thing Man U need, they have only scored two goals in four games this season…

I think this will be the start of Rooney dropping back into a no.10 role, then into a central role. He’s lost his pace and I think a Scholes type role would suite him well. Leave RVP and Falcao up front.

Doesn’t look good for Juan Mata does it? Can see him being the one to miss out if Van Gaal opts for three of Falcao, Mata, Van Persie and Rooney. Surely Rooney will play, being captain? Pity for Mata as he’s a clever, creative player but he’s little pace and strength and can’t seem to play on the wing. Great move by Mourinho to cash in when he did! I don’t think Rooney is good enough, or fit enough, to play in centre midfield though so unless he’s playing off one or two strikers maybe he’ll get the boot as well.

I feel a bit sorry for Moyes as well! He had no chance in retrospect – ageing squad and resistance to get the deals done from the board as opposed to the blank cheque book Van Gaal has!

The big disaster (apart from the Glazers) was Fergie and Gill retiring at the same time. Moyes had never dealt with signing players of world class level before and Gill could’ve settled him. Rumours I believe suggest there were deals for Alcantara and Herrera last season but Moyes dithered too long. That and getting rid of the coaching staff, which was naive at best and stupidity at worst.

Mata was the very definition of panic buy. If he’d helped Man U get 4th it would have been seen as a stroke of genius. But he didn’t so he’s not. I agree he’ll be in the wilderness for a while. I can’t think of a good game he’s had tbh

Man U should have sold Rooney when they had the chance. I can’t help feel he’s wasted his potential; if he’d trained like Ronaldo or Beckam instead of smoking and dicking around he could have been one of the greatest ever Engligh players. He’s knackered now, on the decline

Just heard Wellbeck off to Arsenal for £16m

Good player, not a game changer but always gives 100%

Rooney was Fergies big faux pas. the first player ever to f fergie about, and not be sold, a la stam and keane. He’s nowhere near the player he’s made out to be, still living on past glories.

No sure I agree with that – on his day Rooney can almost beat the opposition by himself. Those days don’t come along too often any more though.

Fergie made it impossible to ditch Rooney by not reinforcing the squad. Rooney carried the team for a whole season and was indispensable so bagged himself £300k a week.

I’d be tempted to drop Rooney and let Mata, RVP and Falcao play as a front 3

Now reports Man U have signed a keeper from Sampdoria. Bizarre! Presume Lindegard is off then

I think Welbeck could be quite a good signing for Arsenal. There’s a lot of question marks about his ability to be a centre forward, but people were saying similar things about Sturridge when he signed for Liverpool.

Phil Nev seems to think so.

The amount of shit I have given Danny Welbeck over the years, for Man U and England, I hope I will be eating humble pie for every meal.

    …just less of this, please.

It was under Moyes ths Rooney got his mega deal, following a sulk after Moyes had hinted he may (rightly) not be the number one centre forward at the club and guaranteed to start. That sort of dithering characterised is ‘reign’. If Fergie had stayed on Rooney would have been sold. Can’t believe some of the money United were allegedley paying fringe players like Anderson, Nani and Hernandez. Their wage bill is insane! Can’t see Welbeck setting the world on fire at Arsenal either – strikes me as someone who thinks he’s a little better than he us. When’s Theo back?

Maybe the medical is proving tricky? Or Van Gaal realised he isn’t a centre half?

    RicB

Utd announced the Failani signing last year well after the cut off time so fingers crossed. If they don’t sign him they’re down to a striker past his best and one who spend a lot of time with the medics. Fingers crossed!!

Why do sky keep subjecting their reporters to the t**ts outside the ground in deadline day? The dildo thing was mildly amusing, but what they are having to endure now at some of the locations is just not right.

Looks like Cleverley is still going to be warming the bench til January then? Seems an endemic attitude amongst young English players. Pick your wages up and don’t actualy play.

Most insane thing Moyes did wasn’t Rooney. Not even the bonkers price for Fellaini. It was giving Nani a new contract! WTF was he thinking!!!

Theres an arsenal fan just been on five live and said: “well if Welbeck can come and get us 25 goals a season he’ll be a great buy”

Clearly he’s never seen him play. Good luck with that Arsene! 😆
