I went for a spin on my Vaya this morning. Something picked up into the brake caliper, when I removed it one of the domed caliper adjusting washers pinged off into the leaves.

I was like Thema from Scooby Doo searching for something without her glasses. I ended up giving up, wrapping the caliper around the bars and riding home with just a back brake.

Anyone else needing a visit to Specsavers?

Does anyone have a spare rattling around in their spares box?

All was not lost, I still had time to get out for a spin on the El Mariachi – liking it a lot!

i have a silly strong magnet i pulled out of an old hard drive (one of those rare earth jobbies i think)

has saved me quite a few times in the shed and on the patio.
Bit excessive to take it on a ride though

Magnets, telescopic one so you don’t have to bend over & rubber mats with holes in to catch stuff makes life a lot easier
The tiny ball bearings out of fox forks lockout levers are particularly bad for jumping out your hands 😉

I was riding at night last year when the only light I had decided to spring off into the bushes and fall apart – I found all the parts bar the bulb after about 30mins searching, so rode home in the dark. I now always ride with 2 lights at night

I dunno I stripped my Hope hub friday, put the springs & pawls in a tub of degreaser… 4 of each went in, 4 pawls & only 3 springs came out. Where the **** did the other one go?
    (luckily I’d ordered some spares)

There still an adaptor for my stans sealant injector in the hedge at my parents’ house, that was a boring 45 mins of searching. Turns out you don’t really need one anyway!!

I’d check that 2 of the springs have not become intertwined with one and other, especially if they are quite small & fine.

Seen it before and upon first glance it just looks like 1 spring.

If you mean one of those washers that you also get on v-brakes to adjust the pad angle, I think I’ve got one or two knocking around.

Pete they are just std v brake spacers – any lbs should have some in the bin.

Often aluminium though, so no help from a magnet!

Unvolo, it’s back together now, I’d imagine I’d have noticed two ‘together’ when fitting… but maybe not, going by my track record.

Half-way down a decent descent in a forest on Friday and one of the rear pads delaminated (yes, I was mincing down).

Anyway as I’d twatted my X2 caliper last week and had replaced it with an older Hope off my sons bike I just got out the spare pads and found it had a sprung pad bolt with retaining wire. Took it out and then could I get it back into the worlds smallest hole? Nope, couldn’t even see the bloody hole!

Finally lost it and ended up with a single strand of gear wire held by a tie-wrap.

Doesn’t matter where you lost it. It’s under the fridge.
