Losing it while driving….

Running over the animals is a tricky one.

I must admit I don’t brake for fluffy l’il bunny wabbits.

BUT. T’other day a male pheasant strutted out into my path whilst I was doing 55-60 on a single carriageway A-road. I yanked on the anchors because I know how much damage one of those dumb meaty pluckers would have done to my car if I’d have hit it.

Motorcyclist up my ‘arris at the time. Got a shed load of abuse from him as he passed me then he got in front and started brake testing me ffs.

No idea whether he saw the pheasant I’d avoided.

It’s caused a massive outcry. The nerve of the council, trying to make people obey the law. How dare they!

I’ve had the same happen to me although I was the motorcyclist and if I were in your shoes, I would report every piece of info to the police and even where he lives to back up the car details, hopefully he is uninsured or the like and then win win.

No, these are just bus lane cameras, designed to catch drivers skipping past queues or taking shortcuts through the bus lanes (which in Newcastle can mean entire streets that car drivers aren’t supposed to be using).

But apparently this is just a tax on honest law-abiding motorists and the council should be doing something about the law-breaking lycra louts instead 🙄

I used to get pretty angry driving because of complete and utter douchebaggery I see everywhere on the roads.

Since getting my van I’ve changed – driving something that doesn’t go fast, I’ve morphed into a 65mph in the inside lane driver and my rants consist of nothing more than the odd word under my breath towards other drivers.

Driving on a dual carriageway last week

Outside lane in a queue of traffic all overtaking a line of trucks at about 70 mph, there’s about 10 cars in front of me and a couple behind. No-one is getting anywhere faster.

As I reach the first truck I notice something on my inside, white van man from the back of the queue had decided he must get himself 2 cars further up the road and decided to undertake but he’s misjudged it. Instead of backing out of the move though he just pulls into my lane, there’s no gap, he literally just drove at me knowing I’d have to hit the brakes or crash into him.

So a 70 mph game of chicken, all to get himself 2 cars up the road and protect his fragile ego. Worst drving I’ve seen in 20 years and I can only guess he’s a bit of a psycho.

For what it’s worth I reported it, hopefully he’s got form but these days it seems safe to assume you can drive like a complete muppet with no repercussions.

Jeez, I wish I was…

The thing is, you can be. I used to get worked up in the car a very long time ago. It made me a dickhead. I am afraid getting worked up behind the wheel also makes you that dickhead too (For that instant – not all the time). I’m not trying to be offensive – you know from the “I wish I was” above that it’s better to be calm. I still get annoyed but try not to let it change my behaviour for the worse.

What annoys me is VW-scene drivers with tampered number plates, crawling in the inside lane with those Hawaiian garlands swinging from the rear view mirror..

I see more badly ridden ones than those with discipline. Seems it’s Ok for motorbikes to speed at all times.

and a huge safety issue would be that all company owned vehicles had a comapany name permanently displayed on the rear,in large enough print to read, all buses and coaches have to by law, but its at the passenger entrance door.

I was joking, Graham. I’m always bemused by the fuss over speed cameras – essentially, don’t break the law and you won’t have a problem. Just like your bus-lane cameras.

Another display of motorcycling fuckwittery tonight – 20 mph limit, straight and empty road, motorcyclist following me. Seemed happy to be behind until he got to outside the school where he decided to get impatient and overtake me. On the zigzags of a pedestrian crossing. Fool.

One point for those of the “bad riders weed themselves out” school of thought: where do you think the bike goes immediately after it’s hit the front of an oncoming car on a blind bend?

On general driving I got cut up by a council minibus yesterday on a roundabout, seemingly having two lanes on the approach is no reason to use two on the actual roundabout when you can just drive straight through. She didn’t even appear bothered when she looked in the mirror to see what the honking was all about. *sigh*

Amusingly half the objectors claim it is a terrible waste of public money, whilst the other half say it is nothing but a cash cow. 🙄

There was even one lady explaining that she doesn’t pay any fines or taxes because they were all fraudulent and illegal according to the Magna Carta 😯

I get fists held up at me, the finger, lights flashed, I’m not a speeder, or reckless and class myself as not a bad driver, but I feel people blast the horn just because they can , or spent too long in nyc , I hate people who don’t acknowledge me in passing places, and if I let them in , I just keep a straight face and hands on wheel, but one day I’m seriously going to snap and someone is going to be wrong place wrong time and they are going to get years of me takin crap on roads and keeping cool and il be spending time at hotel hmp ……

We dont need to wait for self driving cars.

You dont post on facebook what you really think about your boss, work, the person next door or a minority group because your actions are recorded traceable and you could be held responsible. It will be the same for cars within quite a short time, when speeding fines are dished out from driving data you will find standards improve quickly.

I find it quite sad though, that driving now proves humans can be complete **** unless the they feel they may get caught.

But as the “making progress” fans like to point out, speeding is just one factor. It is one of the easiest to target but doesn’t help with inappropriate (but “legal”) speed, tailgating, dodgy overtakes, being on the phone, just not giving a shit etc

Speed was an example, all actions will be recorded your car will be like your phone.
