My partner’s doing a work placement at the Hub / arts and crafts centre place (muchos high-brow, very proud), and I’m driving her there every day from many, many miles away. Rather than waiting for her in a coffee shop, or driving home to set off again, I thought I’d pack the bike and spend the day riding round.

So if anyone knows of any spots nearby, any good routes, or which OS map I should be looking at, your advice would be much appreciated!

    Cheers!

Sherwood pines is your best bet tbh, it’s an mtb desert around there.

Buy a road bike and explore the flatlands out from there.

I live in the Sleaford area and find plenty of bridleways to piece together a route . Yes you will need to link them together with some sections of country lane and it ain’t no peaks but there are some nice rural routes to get you out in the sticks . OS wise you need to be looking at 121 and 130 . As mentioned , there are some nice routes around the Belvoir area but I usually avoid them in the winter as they can get really muddy ! Sherwood pines is about 45 mins away , it has a cafe and bike shop and the Kitchener trail is a good route ( remember to take £4 for the car park ) .
If you need anymore info about local routes pm me and i’ll try and talk you through one or two .

Had a great week, thanks to everyone who replied! Some bridleways out and about (Hawthorne bushes and claggy clay aside), and popped by Sherwood Pines on Sunday for something called the British XC Champs? Spectating only, but maybe next year…

All goes to show that wherever you are, there’s always riding that’s well worth the effort of seeking out.
