Have you considered a 1.0 Yaris? Not too expensive nowadays, they're quite quick for 1.0's, easy to work on, generally reliable and insurance is pretty good!
So motorcycling is safe as houses aye? When someone's not looking and takes you out, being on a bike is as safe as being in a car?
Someone's in denial..
Likewise classic cars – it's got nothing to do with being an inexperienced driver. If someone comes flying around a blind bend on your side of the road and smashes into you, all the experience in the world makes no difference. NCAP stars on the other hand mean the difference between injury and death.
thanks again people think i might be going back to a bike if possible maybe wait for 125cc but then bit annoying treking from wydle green to bordeserly green college
Makes the £270 I pay for my 535i (comp, business, protected and low excess) seem almost like I'm robbing them!
Can't stress too much how important it is not to claim, for almost any reason. I paid cash out to settle my first wifes' inability to pay attention, more than once.
Just play with the comparison sites, trying cars you'd never want to be seen dead in.
Personally I think the answer is bite the bullet and get on the no claims ladder. Personally I'd choose something mechanically simple over the cheapest possible insurance. If you can fix it yourself you can probably recover a lot of the insurance cost in reduced repair costs.
For comparison, my first car Triumph Acclaim (in 1999) £600 for first year. That was a month's take home pay at the time.
Things you can try:
– limit your mileage
– add a named driver with some experience (But don't put the policy in their name/ lie to the insurance company about how much they will use the car)
– brokers who specialise in younger drivers/high risk drivers (if you claim its likely to be a PITA though)
– limit your usage – I think Aviva used to do a thing with a 'black box' in the car that monitored your usage at the high risk hours of day (rush hour/late at night etc). You then got a usage based charge on top of a cheaper basic premium
well he called me a poser the other day because I said the space between a BMW's wheel arches – from previous experience – was too narrow for my needs.
I never did get a "reasoned argument" on that one either
I'm not 100% on this so I'm prepared to be corrected, but those advising to get classic car insurance might want to also point out that it doesn't always let you build any NCD does it?
😆
What about the mid 80s Volvo 340.
Pretty safe, reliable, drop down rear seats, big boot, rear wheel drive?
Would they qualify as being old enough for classic insurance?
