how long and which way ?

will be travelling from rubery so right on the m5 at 3.

is there some kind of centre to head off from ? if so where ?

i’m guessing we can get trail maps from the cafe ?

    ta all.

    Yeah, M5 > M54 > A5 > A49.
Big article in this month’s mag.

err shouldn’t that be M6>M54 etc.. though as I live stourbridge way, yes I just go cross country from M5 J3 past bridgnorth, but it’s not exactly the fastest route so maybe the suggest above is better.

is it neccesary to buy the st mag or can i just get a route from the centre ?

OS map is pretty good. Maybe call at Blazin Bikes at Marshbrook, for a chat and ideas.

More than 3 ascents in a day on the Mynd is hard work i my book. Check the article in current singletrack. I love the descents from Jinlye.
Maybe park up with the hordes at Cardingmill Valley if you’ve not been before , National Trust carpark (and rates !)
If I were going from Rubery, I’d stay off the motorway and go to Kiddermister, or Bridgnorth, then aim at Ludlow / Craven Arms and head Norh up the A49.

I’d go the scenic route via Kiddy and Bridgnorth or even A4117 over Clee Hill. Probably a little slower but I guess you know what the M5/M6 interchange can be like…

Plush Hill Cycles [/url]have the trail map in hard copy and here, and the ST mag article helps paint a good picture of the terrain.

Spoilt for choice of start points but if Stretton centre or Carding Mill you’ll not be far from cake. The road to Minton is pretty quiet IIRC.

Yep Bridgenorth > Much Wenlock > Church Stretton

park up at Cardingmill, little stretton or all stretton..

I read the ST article and their route looks fantastic.

I can’t believe I’ve never been there and it’s only 40 mins from my door (usually rotate the Peaks, North Wales and the Lakes)!

I’ve bought the OS, I’ve marked up the ST route and was planning to follow that on the 18th (taken the day off).

Do you all reckon that ST have got the best route then or would you suggest any additions or diversions ? I noticed they followed the ridge past the riding club rather than dropping to Asterton.
The article also said it holds up to the weather well, agree/disagree ?(not that that would stop me anyway)

I have only ridden up there 10 or 12 times, so, there will be much superior knowledge on here. I have only had one miserable time and that was in a full on gale and it began to rain really heavily-sideways ! So, that was my own look out. I’ve ridden it with lying snow on top and after heavy rain, when, apart from just off the ridgeline, at the top of Minton Batch and near Jinlye, the trails seemed to drain quite well.
That ST route is well thought out and worth a go espscially to give you a good taste, as it pointed out, great descents at the expense of “fun” climbs, but once you have ridden it you will see there are lots of options. Including some on the opposite side of the A49 and also a little further south.
I only live 40 odd miles away and intend to explore more this winter.
    I’m certain you’ll enjoy it.
