Limewire and my Laptop Antivirus

Ive recently downloaded Limewire onto a new Laptop that I had put Avast Antivirus onto. Limewire seems to spend ages connecting and never actually connect – I think this is cause my Antivirus is preventing it, but how do I get round this?
