Like Crocs, but with grippier soles?

Don’t judge me. We live in a semi small holding out in the cuds. I live in Crocs or wellies when I’m at home. We have no near neighbours, so there’s no one to see my dignity and self respect seeping out through the little holes in them!

Crocs are really practical, when you’ve quickly got to nip outside for something, without the faff of constantly taking wellies on and off. The only downside is on certain surfaces, anything wet or muddy, they are lethal. I’ve gone on my arse more than once. Even my garage floor which is epoxy paint, is like an ice rink in wet Crocs.

So what is there that is as comfortable and effortless to slip on and off as Crocs, but with a safe, grippy, non-slip sole?

Are you a dentist or a mortician? If not, not crocs.

Hunter and Aigle do a short wellie. Do you have a boot jack? Avoid the plastic or wooden ones and seek out a decent cast iron one. Makes dealing with wellies so much easier.

Yes we have a boot jack and Aigle wellies which get a lot of use. But when you are in out, in out all day long, constantly taking wellies on and off (even short ones) becomes a right PITA. So whilst the wellies will still get plenty of use, there is a need for something I can slip on and off, without using a boot jack or without having to bend over or sit down to take them on or off. I.e. Like Crocs but with grippy soles 🙂

I live in All terrain Crocs. I started the whole trend of socks and crocs – I was wearing this before all the cool kids were.

(Still slippy on painted garage floor!)

@fazzini thanks! They might fill the bill. Slightly suspicious though that whilst they have a more aggressive tread pattern, it looks like it’s moulded from the same plasticy material which is inherently slippy when it’s wet? Have you tried them?

I got something similar from Aldi / Lidly for Mrs NBT, should have got a pair for myself – these have a nice solid sole so you can use a spade etc, whree the croc rip-offs I use are too soft

Epoxy point is pretty treacherous in pretty much any shoes. Get a garden sprayer mix some sugar and water and give its a spritz.

That’s why I suggested short wellies. They only cover your ankles. The other option I use is a knackered pair of approach shoes  (or TKmaxx specials) with the laces permanently tied up really loose. Go a complete size up for less faff.

@blokeuptheroad I have not. Just knew they existed. I live in crocs too as they suit my very wide feet. Like @db I fear they will still fail on painted garage floor…that’s the slippiest surface known to humankind (I have the bruises to prove it)

Any ideas how to remove oil stains from Crocs?

I’d say welly shoes are the way to go, those crocs look no different material wise than regular ones.

We have welly shoes, actually cut them down a bit more to aid handless on and offs for similar reasons and they’re great for popping out to the bin/recycling, feed the birds, hang washing etc and cheap as chips.

I once saw a man in crocs carrying a baby across seaweed covered rocks at lowtide .
Either some sort of gymnast or bloody stupid.

Reminds me, I have some croc sandals I got for when I go to and from home outdoor swimming nearly crippled myself a few times on grass slopes and rocks.

I have a pair of very old and knackered Meindl walking boots by the back door. The laces are tucked under the insole and I can just slip them on and off with ease. I can spend the whole day in the garden like that, or untuck the laces and do them up properly when I need.

These have a non slip sole (think they’re mainly for hospital workers and the like) and don’t have a bunch of holes in the side to get your feet wet when you walk on wet grass and leaves. Soft and comfy sole too, like outdoor slippers.

Seems Crocs do two kinds of all terrain ‘clog’. Normal all-terrain and ‘Atlas’ all-terrain.  The former seem to just be moulded with a more aggressive tread pattern but in the same plastic as regular Crocs, the latter have actual rubber on the soles so should be less slippy.

Expensive mind for what they are, especially as I’ve had to buy Mrs Bloke a pair too! However, I discovered my Defence Discount Card gives me 30% off on the Crocs website which took the sting out of it.

Merrell do a Croc-adjacent shoe with better styling, I’m thinking about getting a pair. Merrell Hydro-Mocs.

I have a pair of the Merrell Hydro-Mocs. They are hideous. Because the sole is a pattern copy of the Vibram sole that’s on other Merrells, but made from the same material as Crocs, they are slippier than a greased frog. They are not as easy to slip on and off as Crocs, but that makes them more secure.

Your dignity and self esteem have plenty of drain holes though.

Seeing as though most of these are basically a collection of holes why not just nip out in bare feet. It’s free and very easy to do!

Yup, bare feet here. If there’s snow on the ground I might resort to flip flops. Neither are very protective when welding or wielding hammers.
