This is going to be a “how long is a piece of string” question but here goes.
We’re getting a new basement and I want to make sure the lighting is good. There will be some natural light coming in, and the basement rooms are mostly bedrooms so I don’t think it should be too complicated, but would it be worth getting in a lighting designer to advise? How much would one cost to give us some help on what lights and where? We can get the builders to install them while they’re doing the rest of the work.

Or is it something I should be able to do myself after reading up on it a bit?

Your sparky should be able to advise. Lighting designers are gonna be pricey and to be honest not going to do you many favours. Work out what type of effect you are trying to achieve find some pics .

Have you got any plans in .DWG format. I could drop it into relux (lighting program) and see what works, depending on what lights you want and the size of the basement etc. I can produce 3d outputs from it to give a good visual reference. All free of course!
    Pm me if interested.
