First an owl that we found in the road, had been hit by a car we assumed, not unusual according to the guy from the RSPCA who collected it, made a recovery after a week but it was weird watching a concussed owl being, odd…

and this chap was actually at a sanctuary doing as show

redthunder.. what bird is in the 4th pic down from the top? I took pics of a three birds above the mountains in glen shiel yesterday and i thought they were golden eagles. Your 4th pic looks most like what i took pics of going by shape of wings etc. Not sure if they were eagles though.

Generally when you think you’ve seen an Eagle, it’s a Buzzard 🙂

Bald Eagle somewhere in the UK…

Martin, they’re Tourist Eagles. Common Buzzards in other words. And they are very common these days, often see them soaring right over the centre of Chippenham, and I’ve seen them over Bath too. Starting to see Red Kites not far away as well. There are some fabulous photos on here, I’m very jealous.

Sue, a Peregrine/Saker cross. Somewhere on my computer I’ve got a photo of one of the Bath Peregrines perched on the church where they nest plucking a pigeon or similar, a little trail of feathers drifting away, but it’s not on line and I can’t get to it at the mo’.

Brilliant shots here. I’m getting a bit obsessed with owls recently after seeing a tawny(?) near my house. What length lens are you guys using for these?

I took my ones with a Nikon 70-300 VR lens, but that was at a paid for photo day through Wild Arena at the Hawk Conservancy. It’s a great opportunity to get some decent pics.

Some of these are fantastic!

A very lame snap of an owl that forgot it wasn’t night time. Often see it in the garden.

Get loads of buzzards and the odd peregrine too.

What length lens are you guys using for these?

This one was 130mm @ f/4.2 – 1/4000s (ISO400)

And this one was 300mm @ f/5.6 – 1/800s (ISO400)

Both taken using the crappy old version (non-VR) 70-300mm G Nikkor on my Nikon D80.

The one of the eagle I don’t have the EXIF data for, but it was much closer as it is about to land on the handler about five meters in front of me. So probably around 70mm.

All were taken during a falconry display at Warwick Castle.
