I have an externally routed dropper and, unlike the internally routed ones I’ve had, you can’t just unscrew the collar and add a little grease or wet lube if it’s feeling a little sluggish.

So is there any way to do some very lazy maintence to delay me having to learn to strip it down properly? The only possibility I’m aware of is using a syringe to inject some oil in there, which someone suggested for forks on here. I assume that wouldn’t be great for the seals, but really have no clue:

It’s only a cheap Brand X thing, so I’m not very motivated to give it much attention.

Not really. But it’s not that hard to strip it down and do a full service. If you are thinking of squirting stuff through the top dust seal then the dropper is very close to a full strip down service anyway so might as well get on and do it. Ideal time to replace the brass keys too if there is any slop.
