My other half had a broken kindle and would like another. Will a 2012 nexus do as a replacement? They’re pretty much the same price!

Just bought a hisense sero 7 pro for £119 which is probably slightly better

    It’s a tablet – very different.

Have been reading on my Kindle again this last couple of weeks for the first time in a while. It’s a much more pleasant experience than reading on a backlit screen and the simplicity means you actually read (rather than getting distracted and browsing on here instead)

Do non – Kindle readers sync as seamlessly with Amazon? Obviously you aren’t tied to Amazon in the same way, but if I was replacing my Kindle I’d want to be able to get at everything I’ve purchased….

I’ve got kindle app on my nexus, its ok for books, but if I was reading a lot of ebooks I reckon I’d prefer a kindle.

When it comes to books tho, I much prefer paper ones.

Trying to kill two birds really, because I’m a tight arse. The nook hd seems really good value but looking like mail order only

hmmm, it depends on how much you read really. I have the original nexus 7 and just upgraded my kindle to the new paperwhite. The nexus will definitely do the job – you can download the kindle app and sync your e books with amazon just as if you had a kindle. The app works well and there’s obviously plenty of room to store books.

that being said, i still have both because the kindle is a lot better at this than the nexus. The nexus will do the job, but the kindle does it a lot better. The e-ink set up is great, there’s no glare even with the paperwhite back light on, its much much lighter and also works far better in bright sunlight. I’ve used the kindle by the pool on holiday and it works far better than a nexus in this situation.

I played with the kindle and nexus and a tesco hudl went with the hudl as it seemed the best. But prefer standard kindle for reading. Well apart from real books that is 🙂
