    Uniqlo here.

I’ve been wearing their fleece lined Heat tech ones most of this winter. Usually wear the selvidge slim or straight cut.

Only issue is the cut is a little inconsistent, straight are a little loose, one pair of slims are perfect, the others are a bit sisters jeans.

I wore boot cut for years, then one day I saw myself reflected in a shop window and realised how ridiculous they look.

Day to day I like uniqlo jeans. They’re reasonable enough, well made, reasonably long lasting, and also have a more consistent approach to sizing than Gap (which I haven;’ bought from for probably 10 years).

I’m surprised no one has mentioned HebtroCo?

Next boot cut 32r perfect fit and 22 quid or thereabouts, same jeans dearer by a tenner for a naff belt, bought two great leather belts in Marrakesh for peanuts but loads of hagglin, its the norm out there

I bought a pair of Nudie drys in October and have worn them everyday since, without washing, and will continue for another 2/3 months when they’ll get their first wash. I fully expect these jeans to last 3 or 4 years. Maybe longer. Proper denim that is.

Nudie are quite a cool company – they value sustainability and recycling – they offer you free repairs for life on all their jeans, so rather than throwing away once you get a blowout you can send them in to be repaired free of charge.

If you decide to throw away a pair, you can get money off a new pair if you give them back to Nudie, at which point they go on sale as 2nd hand items.

    Cool company.

I’m just horrified about the amount of people suggesting boot cut as a sensible option. We’ve all made the mistake, I thought most of us had moved on from it.

Edwin ED55 selvedge for best; but they size up a bit (I’m comfortably in 34’s, bit tight in 32’s and I ain’t a 32 size)

Uniqlo do some decent stuff for day to day, as mentioned above, but you either need to buy a few pairs to try on and send the ones you don’t want back, or go to a shop.

H&M – can be OK and not too pricey, again they need visiting and trying on.

Next for cheap, but also I use them for workwear in ‘jeans but not jeans’ style – I have a pair of beige thin cords, and a black pair, which i can get away with whereas blue denim even if very dark and new are no-no’s according to the boss.  And their stretchy slim fits are actually a decent cut for another generous thighed individual. And who cares if they don’t last, i can get half a dozen pairs for the same price as selvedge Edwins.

Oh – and boot cut. 3 pairs in my wardrobe, one day they will be fashionable again

another Edwin ED55 Rainbow Selvedge wearer here, had been wearing LVC 1954z for years and years, but they kept ripping in the crotch at around 6 months or so

I’m happy with Prana Axiom jeans, seem to be well made and nice material. Axiom=Stretch standard fit, Manchester=slim fit, wheeler=standard fit, bridger=stretch slim fit.

All you people not washing your jeans are just manky buggers, next time you use a urinal wearing shorts think about why you should wash them.

For the man with the larger thigh – Levis 541 athletic taper fit. they’ve got a bit of stretch in them too. Waist size seems to be way off (I’m a 38 usually and ended up with a 36) so go and try some on!

I’m a fat boy with chubby thighs.

I went to the Levi store at Cheshire Oaks and they had a 2 pairs for £99 promotion.  I got a pair of 501 Selvedge and a pair of black heavyweight 501s for that price.  Absolute bargain.  I also found that even the 501s had vastly different weights of fabric.

As far as the selvedges are concerned – the rule is NEVER wash them.  Apparently.  They shrink and go floppy.  Just scrape off the crusts and spray with febreeze, my kids tell me.

I hate tight around the calf so has to be boot cut, and as for months without washing yeuch they must have anaerobic digestion cleansing properties

What the hell are people doing in urinals with shorts on that makes my jeans dirty ?

Sticking a sprinkler attachment in the end ?

Its the aerosol bounceback that you only notice when you’re wearing shorts, but happens all the time.

    Well me anyway.

I’m not gonna say that’s internet bollocks, but I’ve found I can wash my selvedge jeans as normal with no bother. So it might be internet bollocks.

John Lewis own brand slightly stretchy were £20 half-price. Loads of 30″ waist left 😀 . Nice fit, good fabric, I’m going back for more. Otherwise it’s either French Connection or Levis 511s, both slim but a good fit for my (aspirational) cyclists legs.

Levi’s, just walk into Levi’s and buy a pair that fit.

This if I can drag myself into town.

    lunge

Levi 511 are slim enough to look good but not too slim for my cyclists legs.

Wearing a pair now, the performance ones have a nice bit of stretch as well.

Mainly Levi’s here: 514, a pair of 513s, and some 501 shrink to fit. But for me it’s the thickness/ weight of the denim that’s the key. The 513 are thin, stretchy denim and hence wore through really quickly. The 514s are better (14oz?) denim from a few years back.

I wear Levi 501s, but have found that the quality of recent pairs has dropped. The last pair seemed much thinner and wore out quite quickly

Totally agree with this. My last pair of 501STF are rigid, but noticeably thinner denim and presumably will wear out a lot quicker.

My go to are Levi’s 511, they’ve got a bit of stretch for the thighs and come in loads of different colours.

Heard good things about the 511 commuter so I think I’ll try those next.

Bootcut jeans are pretty horrific, mind you so is the thought of wearing anything bearing the Armani logo.

Nudie as suggested wear really well and just get better with age, Edwin also make some really good jeans. Uniqlo are amazing value. No doubt someone will be along in a minute suggesting Huit.

next jeans are horrific. uniqlo ok. i just live in Rabbie Denim now or Betabrand. Rabbie regularly have sales for people on newsletter and can pick em up for around £100.

501s here too. I agree with earlier comment that they are not as hardwearing as they were. The backside seems to wear quickly – maybe I’m developing a bony arse. But they fit.

It is unsaniforized or raw denim that shrinks, not sure about floppy. You are meant to buy this type of jeans slightly larger and they then supposedly mould to your body.

Selvedge just refers to the traditional loom that is used and the edging that is visible down the seams.

The less you wash both types of jeans initially the more likely you will get “wicked fades” if that flicks your switch.

First page, for a very good reason too (imo) they’re great jeans and a great company to deal with.

If you can’t bring yourself to go to TK Maxx, try M&M direct, they generally have lots of Diesel jeans for around 50% off RRP – all sorts of fits too. My favourite for everyday wear is Larkee, plain old straight fit jean but pretty hard wearing.

If you can get to a Gap outlet you’ll certainly get a bargain as there’s generally some sale going on. I don’t think there’s many High St stores now, they’re closing them off to focus mainly on the discount outlets.

    Lee, unashamed denim snob.

Edit: Raw denim will barely shrink if it’s been sanforized – about 3% compared to 10% if it’s unsanforized. Raw just means they haven’t washed the starch out. Allows you to personalise them if you don’t wash them until after a good 6m of wear.

Poppycock. I think you’re thinking more flares, not bootcut. Those ones Simon Cowell is wearing above, flares, not bootcut. They’re touching the ground! Plus Simon Cowell makes any clothing look deeply, deeply wrong.

Why on earth would I, as a wearer of boots, want my jeans to sit at the top of said boots, unable to fit over and cover the ankle? I can’t stand taper jeans or taper legwear of any kind and am looking forward to the rest of the world seeing sense again….for a bit, until they change again…

I only wear bootcut. The sooner this trend for wearing your sisters jeans ends, the better.

    😁

thats because MTB’ers feel safe with a brand they know (being linked to Howies) but there are other british based jeans manufacturers who either manufacture here in the UK or Japan/Portugal/Turkey

Blackhorse lane, Albam, Universal Works, Dawson, Fallow. to name a few

I’m wearing Universal Works right now, they’re ok. sit a bit higher than the Hiut ones. One issue for me is the pockets have tiny openings.

I like Hiut as they have good quality lining on the waist band and inside the back pocket.

Love Blackhorse Lane, Bit like a Hiut, but I do have some of their 18oz jeans. Tried them on but an yet to wear them in anger.

You should be wearing Lee jeans really since they are bearing your name and all. Also really good jeans for the money, usually better made than Levi’s.
