Hello STW, i need to change my stem for a shorter one but need some advice on what effect a different angle will have. I imagine this is not a question with a simple answer.

Currently a 0deg 120mm feeling stretched to far with seat fully forward. Am looking at a 0deg 70mm stem replacement. I understand that there is a pronounced difference with a shorter stem so if i went with a 10deg 90mm stem would i be sitting comfortably?

try a few first? I’ve got a couple of shorter stems, I’ve no idea how to accurately measure them but ones about 85mm from weld to end, maybe 10degree rise (its an on one) and an EA50 which is maybe 100mm and similar rise. If you’d like to give them a try let me know.

Is this for an mtb or a road bike? Which bike is it? It may be the wrong size, what size is it and how tall are you?

You’ll only know by trying. Borrow a mate’s?

50mm is a lot of change, even 30 is quite a bit.

Its a 2008 large Trance X3 with the original giant bars (ill measure them). Im 6’1″ of solid build and enjoy climb the before the reward so dont want anything too short.

Used to have 70mm stem and 685mm bars on my Trance and it suited it well for singletrack but was a bit short for long climbs – it has a short TT anyway.

90mm might be worth trying for starters – is quite a common stem size.
