I have a Sony Mini Pro – teeny-tiny and with a proper QWERTY keyboard.

I quite fancy a replacement as it’s getting a bit slow, but I don’t want a phone like a wide screen telly, as all phones seem to be these days. Does anyone make a small smartphone anymore?

Xperia U – a bit bigger than the mini, but small (and cheap) by today’s standards.

Not trendy, but Blackberry are great. BBX operating system is due soon, but the Bold 9900 and smaller curve are great to type on. Bold is the phone they should have released three years ago. It’s the best non-touchscreen phone I’ve used. And I hate touchscreens after two years with a BB Torch.

Cheers for the suggestions. I’d like to stay on Android ideally. Why so the smaller phones have to be the basic ones (the Sony U for example gets less than glowing reviews)

Sony Experia Ray is same size as your average feature phone.
Generally very happy with mine but you do need small fingers to type so the outcome makes any sense…

Xperia Tipo is pretty similar size to the Mini, though no keyboard. And fairly cheap.

Xperia Go while they’re still available? I’ve looked at it a replacement for my 6 month old Xperia Mini Pro which is playing up but have now I’ve bought another (now slightly old school) HTC Desire as a stop gap while O2 look at the Mini.

bigger than a proper old phone, but handy enough

Where? Gets 9/10 here http://www.trustedreviews.com/sony-xperia-u_Mobile-Phone_review. Most of the poor reviews seem to be from people who are complaining that the screen isn’t big enough 😉 which isn’t a problem for you.
My son has just bought one, and I think it’s a really nice bit of kit.

Go to a 2nd hand phone shop and select a range u like the look of and hold them and have a play with em first.

I do like the keyboard, but I suppose I could live without it.

The Tipo is a bit basic, as is the Go. I suppose what I want is the phone I have, but with a faster processor. Or, alternatively, the moon on a stick.

    what are you comparing too?
i went from a desire to a one s, and carted them both about for a short while, one in each pocket. despite being bigger screened, because the one s is thinner, it actually is easier on the pocket.
