I'm a dad!

Mrs Schmiken managed to squeeze out schmiken junior this morning at 6.13 after a mammoth 53 hours in labour. Absolutely buzzing, shocked and can’t wait to get them home.

Just wanted to share some good news 🙂

Now, after a slow start when sleep deprivation kicks in and every minute seems like an hour….life will begin to whizz by and in five minutes it will be ‘Yay! I’m a Grandad!’ :o)

Excellent stuff, Kids are great, first children are especially great.

Enjoy it, it passes quickly.

My tip top tip, get a baby Bjorn then, when older, a quality backpack carrier. Means you can still get out in the hills, on foot.

And well done to your Mrs, 53hrs is a marathon!

It’s not easy at first but once the personality starts to show through in they just get funnier and funnier. We have number 2 due in October.

congratulations 53hr labour eh? you must be shattered, get yer head down man you deserve the rest!. KIDDING!!!! good on you and the mrs (especially her!), being a dad is ace and you’ll never be the same again. look after both of them as they have had a bit of a time of it by the sounds of things and take stuff as it comes. i remember getting our first home and doing my first nappy change, i can honestly say it was one of the most nerve racking things i’ve ever done but great all the same. Its easy and hard at the same time and the concept of sleep will soon pass into memory, good luck and have fun

my boy is nearly two now..get as much riding in as you can during the first few months .It’s much easier when all they do is eat and sleep! I didn’t believe my older & wiser riding buddy when he said my mountain biking was all but over….he was correct. 😀

Son (still unnamed!) born on Tues (Steve Peat’s birthday – im hoping that qualifies him for free tuition in due course) and it’s looking like a boys all nighter tonight. I only took part in the closing 30 mins this time as I was arranging child care for our 1st little one, I can’t imagine the toll 53hrs would take on, well, both of you!

Mogwai might be the way forward on the name based on the noises he makes! Don’t think his digestive system is taking too well to milk #assexplosions… Hey ho.

Two tips. 1. Make sure you untuck the frills on the nappies. (50% fewer leaky poo nappies) 2. Now is not the time to move house. (I did, with a 10 day old, now 3 1/2 weeks old)
