….it really isn’t a good idea to agree a price with a buyer, send an email saying that it’s being boxed up ready to post and then sell it to someone else without even telling the original buyer.
Just not a good thing to do – especially as the original buyer might have already started stripping his frame down ready for the new one.

You know who you are and frankly I think you’re a kn0b won’t be dealing with you again.

I’ve had someone agree to sell me a bike on here, even arranged a place and time to meet up to do the deal.

Then the morning of the meet I got an email saying they had been offered more money so they sold it to someone else and I quote “…anyone would do the same.” Erm, no I wouldn’t!

Indeed. Once a price is agreed, stick to it. At the very lest, of you get another offer, tell the first person about it. Very shoddy.

    I’d name & shame, personally.

You need to say if it’s not SS now, otherwise anyone looking at your history will assume it is.

Indeed it was Steve Smith (also known as SS). Looks like he deals lots of stuff.
Did the deal Friday/Saturday and he said he’d send his bank details through – never got anything so yesterday sent an email asking for them and got back:

Hi Sorry Ted, someone nearby made me an offer so I’ve sold it to him to save the hassle of posting.

Not much else I can say, well there is but I’d be banned.

How do you do that ??

Pretty shoddy, once a deal is agreed that should be it. However, on the other hand, I’ve lost count of the number of times it’s happened to me the other way round ie. deal agreed, payment details/meeting place arranged, then (quite remarkably) a personal financial disaster befalls the buyer and they have to pull out 👿

This sucks really. This isn’t eBay so there is nowt in terms of buyer/seller protection. And, as we are all lovers of the two wheeled machines some common sense and courtesy should be forthright.

But anyway, maybe there should be some kind of points system or even after a transaction has been made both the buyer and seller add their experiences to the original classified post so that others can at least trace some kind of feedback.

I for one have sold and brought a few things on here and found the guys I have dealt with to be awesome. Just a shame there are a few that clearly aren’t.

Its pretty poor form – he should have told you but if he needed to get a box, sort that, take it to the post office etc then I can maybe understand slightly if he took the slightly less faff route.

No excuse for not telling you though.

I’m not really….. but I was going to sell someone my ‘old’ frame and consequently had to let them down which wasn’t so good. 😐

Dismal state of affairs, horse whip and ban. I thought most of us on here were honorable gents.

On the bright side, I got a great frame at short notice although I did have to go round and collect it!

’tis indeed a bit shoddy, i just sold a frame on another forum and told the guy i’d do my best to post it today but simply haven’t had the time, and i feel a bit bad about that, but it is boxed up and will be gone tomorrow.

I had a similar thing recently on Pinkbike, and it wasn’t a kid the guy ran a bike shop.

The guy was selling some forks for £400ono, we agreed a price at £350 and arranged to meet in a few days as he was apparently out of the country, I went ahead and sold my Talas forks on here in preparation/raise some funds and then I noticed he was still bumping his ad and hadn’t marked it sold. i confronted him and he assured me they were mine, then the day before we were supposed to meet sure enough he contacts me to tell me he has a local buyer prepared to pay £400 grrrr. Willchambers you are a tool.
