Imagine you’re still a while away from retiring – both in age and financial security, but you do have a lump of cash available. You have no strong ties to any particular part of the UK, your dependants are no longer dependant.

You need to live somewhere and you need to do something.

Where would you live and what would you do?

The aim would be general happiness / quality of life.

You don’t have particularly expensive tastes and your bikes are all paid for.

    🙂

Live in York, Yorkshire now but would love to live in Cornwall, somewhere near the end on the Atlantic coast.

Hmmm I’m picturing lots of woods, valleys and greeness so far . . . and I do like plate sized Yorkshire Pudding. (of course greeness = rain!)

Interesting Caher – southern europe has crossed my mind. Not St Tropez of course, but there are plenty of normal places. Maybe within an hour of the pyranees or the southern end of the alps . . .

Why would you retire to somewhere where everyone will hate you just because you are english?

Im trying to sort out a move to Malvern, seems to tick a lot of the boxes for us with a young family

Edinburgh, probably Morningside. Nice town/city, big enough to have all you could ever really need. Cycleable to the Pentlands, not too long a drive into the Highlands.

Somewhere in the Lakes would be my choice.

Stavley, Ings or the outskirts of Ambleside, Cumbria. Failing that both the wife and I have always enjoyed the fort bill area of Scotland.

South Devon, South Hams region. Been staying down there for the last three years, made good friends down there, and I adore that stretch of coast around Start Bay, and I could happily live there. No idea what I’d do, I’m sure I could find something.

Start Bay, from the SW Coast Path, Hallsands on the left, Start Point on the right.

I dread my kids living further away than I could reach within a couple of hours.
