Identify this 1980s outdoor brand

What’s the brand that used this logo? Found on a specific sort of thick fleece jacket, I don’t know if they made anything else. It’s driving me crackers!

Was that on those god awful blue fibrepile jackets that used to get issued to hillwallkers along with their Ron Hills?

That’s it, thanks! I recall it as being completely amazing, the warmest thing available (at the time). There is a whole year or so of my childhood where I’m wearing it in almost every photo!

Man I loved my red North Cape Polartec 200 fleece. I wore it to absolute death.

Aye, back in the olden days you had a North Cape Ogre or a Javeline fibrepile jacket that instantly became bobbly… Then along came fleece…

I think I still have a pair of bright blue ultrafleece joggers from North Cape…..

Yearly discount sale in the community hall. Fleeces for a pound etc – although one did have a sleeve a foot longer than another. Happy memories.

Javelin jackets were a revelation. A waterproof coat that was warm as soon as you put it on.

It looks like you can still buy them.

Javelin jackets and Typhoon long john and bolero combo  wetsuits was the default dresscode of my youth.

North Cape, late 70s – I had a great pile jacket that was durable with grey elbow patches.

I’ve got a green Polartec 200 hanging in the cupboard! I used to live in it, but it feels a little short in the arms these days. Still good though

My favourite base layer Tshirt was a north cape, I think that was a 1990s purchase and the logo had changed slightly and had long since washed off, but I still instantly recognised it

I forgot I’ve got a Coolmax T shirt too, which I wore almost constantly for a year around New Zealand in the late 90s. It still gets the odd outing.

Seems there’s still a few knocking about!

@convert 10!! How old do you think I am?! I reckon I was about 4 when I had the jacket.

Still got mine that was a 18th birthday present. It will be 43 tomorrow and still does the same job.  Second or third zip, knitted cuffs knackered but still warm. Swapped to Helly Hansen as it was much easier to wear next to the skin, which I still do on wet days. Didn’t like Javelin. Too bulky.

Yes we did @matt_outandabout .  My wife still wears her’s.  Fleece one side, Pertex the other. The traditional logo is on the fleece side.

I was also a fan of HellyHansen fluffy fleece – not the Pile, it was more a forerunner to MonkeyPhur or HighLoft.

Yeah I had the fleece pertex reversible in burgundy and blue. I forgot it was a North Cape until AngusWells pic. I don’t recall it having the compass logo anywhere.

I used to wear their baselayers in the 1990’s.  Always felt so instantly warm.

If anyone has a vintage fibre pile jacket in a medium flavour that’s not totally knackered I’d be interested! 👌

I can’t recall ever being cold in the 1980s. Apart from cheap fake Campri ski jacket phase of 1984-85 that came hot on the heels of the faux fur snorkel Darth Vader jacket you wore with the hood only to pretend you were superman I remember refusing to wear coats at all.

There was that glorious Nevica period too.😍

Ok then, since this appears to be a whole niche specialist subject… what brand were the loud cotton trousers, I think tapered or maybe drawstring/elasticated at the ankle. I associate them with climbers. Came in a whole array of patterns and colours, not as baggy as MC hammer pants, but definitely not tight or fitted. Might have had a foot logo of some sort, although that could be a red herring.

Troll. From Uppermill near Oldham. They made harnesses and chalk bags too. I wore them with my reversible North Cape fleece. 🤪
