Sugar free gum – beware, the sweet taste and sweetners can stimulate insulin production as if you had eaten sugar.

Really? I was under the impression artificial sweeteners had no influence on blood sugar

    http://www.aspartame.info/info/faqs.html

Aspartame has no carbohydrates, which means that it does not affect blood glucose levels and has no GI rating

Tea is good for me for removing hunger and sweet cravings. Also water. A drink of water is almost as good as a sugary drink. Doens’t work if you are proper hungry though of course.

I thought the whole point of this, as opposed to calorie restriction, is that there is no hunger cravings?

Jamie – you won’t (in theory) be hungry if you eat enough. You can still end up not eating enough. However for me I simply cannot eat enough beans and veg to get the carbs to make me feel full, sometimes. Esp if exercising hard.

At first the cravings were far easier to manage than with calorie restriction, but now it’s getting harder for some reason.

Re sweetners – there is no sugar to enter your blood, but I have read that it still fools your system into producing insulin.

Do Artificial Sweeteners Cause an Insulin Spike?

Remember there’s also a psychogical effect here. Just learn to deal without the sweet stuff. Sweet food is like fags.

Is something like diet coke or other sugar-free fizzy pop ok for an alternative sweetness kick on the iDave diet?
I know its not really that healthy overall, but was wondering about it as a possible “pudding replacement”.

I’ve got a good pudding replacement for you, it’s called MTFU.

Nuts and seeds are IN, but go easy because they have a lot of calories in. They are however extremely good for you.

Ooo !. That made me wince.
    **omega 6 content**
Nuts are a bit of a double edged sword and not all nuts are created equal.
Look at this place for example…

I’ve got a good pudding replacement for you, it’s called MTFU.

    Yeah, desert / pudding.
The creation of people who want to sell you another course.
You’ve had your dinner, then Blamo !, hit your system with a psunami of sugar, just to finally finish you off.
    No, you don’t need desert.

Can you I have custard on that?
    FTFY
    Knock yourself out kiddo.

In an entirely different context. But I commend your elephantine memory – you’re clearly still smarting a bit from your last attempt to have a go.

    Ah right, that defence.

I don’t believe that we need to aim for what paeleolithic people ate. I do however think MDA is a good site and that his diet is good.

It’s all black and white with you, isn’t it? 🙂 Btw darcy’s post was a joke based on the fact that butternut squash spaghetti sound disgusting.

You’re certainly not complex, I’ll give you that much matey. As for your patience, I think we got through to the depths of that the last time…it was fun but you didn’t last long.

you’ve just been had my son !

Less of your dodgy fantasies Solo. That’s just a bit weird.

So, you gonna try the squash pasta ?.

    Funnily enough, no. 🙂

EDIT: I seem to recall a few posts back saying “I’m not about to get into this with you”. 🙄 I need to get on and cook my supper.

**** hell, this has gone too far. Fair enough, eating lots of sweets and choccies makes you fat, but worrying about whether to eat a tomato or not? Its a natural product, get it down yer!

Phew !, I’m glad for that.
However, paying attention to what our digestive systems have evolved into, to make use of certain foods.
    Might be worth while.
Which is not to be confused with what a our digestive systems can tolerate, during our abuse of the term “Food”.

I do however think MDA is a good site and that his diet is good.
    What, including the fruit ?.

You’re certainly not complex, I’ll give you that much matey. As for your patience, I think we got through to the depths of that the last time…it was fun but you didn’t last long.

    How obvious is that ?.
I think I like you DD, you amuse me.
Especially as you are absolutely rubbish at disguising your irritation.
Or, perhaps thats deliberate on the basis that you class me as sub-human and inferior to you in every respect.
    Yeah, thats probably it.
You and Middle-Class-Molgrips make a formidable pair.

Elephant dung may be a natural product.
Don’t see many people rushing to get a gob full of that…

Anyway, the tomato thing has been answered often enough.
Infact so often that raising said question anymore, might be considered to be… Trolling ?.
No doubt about it, these infernal diet threads have become a beast on here.

Consider, for a moment, my propensity for flaming, should I think the victim deserves it.
Then consider that at the time you made your “chubby” remark, I totally let it slide.
And still would have, if you hadn’t been so tetchy.
I think you need to lighten up.
Go back and read the posts, you’re the one who got stroppy mate.
Anyway, have a glass of red.
    None taken, for my part.

Eh ?, are we discussing the same site.
True life stories and all that where mahoosive people end up getting back to being normal, ie, much lighter than when they started out.

Anyway, I like Marks site, especially his approach to assessing foods that we ought and ought not to consider eating.
Some of Marks stuff is good, but can’t say I’m convinced about all of it.
And as you may know, I’m not a fan of supplements such as those powdered shake thingys.
Fish oil capsules is as far as supps go with me.

I think it’s rather plain who’s being the tetchy geezer here.

I’m the victim here? I thought it was you. No, it’s me. No, it’s you. Ah Jeez, I’m confussed. Maybe I need to set my formidable partner Middle-Class-molgrips on you.

i find that psyllium husks, besan flour and LSA meal makes a dough which provides a comforting stomach bomb when baked that is almost, but not quite, unlike cornbread.
