Where does the duct tape go?

    😆

tape on balls of feet and heels, with no creases, then smother all in vaseline

brand new socks with no pilling

i have looked into the blister thing and done some trials

Sorry for the hijack but.. I’ve been finding my legs a little achey after an hour of base riding. Never used to get this. Odd.

At the risk of being in a grnadmother and eggs situation

everyone has their own pet preventions for blisters. iDave – have you put duct tape on your feet before? IME anything impermeable just traps sweat macerates and softens the skin and leads to more issues – but I do have very sweaty feet with a lot of thick skin. Teh blisters I tend to get are from sheering between the layers of skin not from friction on the surface

A couple of suggestion for you to try if you want to tape your feet is flexoplast which is a very thick strong elastoplast on a roll – helps reduce sheering between the layers of skin and stops friction skin to sock and mefix which is a very sticky but very soft thin dressing. Removes all friction skin to sock.

I guess you already have but make sure you try out the duct tape before the event to see how it goes

    Oh – and good luck

Cheers TJ, spoke to a few friends who run Ultra’s and some said dry feet, some said vaseline, some duct tape, some zinc tape, some talc, most MTFU. Tried duct tape with Vaseline and it seems ok. May try prophylactic compeed plasters in the next couple of weeks. What’s the worst that can happen anyway? 😯

iDave thats about right 🙂 everyone has their own ideas

Anotehr one to try is granuflex or duoderm extra thin – same stuff as compeed basically but comes in sheets you can cut to fit. Tahts the best stuff to heal up sore feet.

Do you get blisters in the bits that rub or in the deep pads of skin? I get the latter and I believe that is about sheering forces between the layers so only something that reduces the sheering helps- I tend to do my marathons as multday walks tho – 🙂

Email me and I canpost you some of this stuff to try

When I did the mongolian ultra I had blisters everywhere, but feet had got soaked in a swamp after 25k so it was a kind of trench foot situation. I also had no idea what to do about blisters, so plodded on. I have 5 weeks to do some more experimenting, but will be tricky without doing huge runs.

Would love to try some magic tape, cheers for the offer!

Interesting this. In theory then for people whose feet get too hot as minimal a shoe as possible would help?

Are there decent running sandals and do people use them to good effect?

It’s possible to lose a stone a month if you’re starting from the ‘portly’ side of the spectrum!

    Not ignoring, simply commenting 🙂

So…….. in a recent development, 4 weeks before the run, I have to have 3 weeks off running as my calf is borked. It became a crumpled knot on an easy trail run last week.

Choice is run unfit and uninjured or fit and injured. Choosing unfit and uninjured.

    Bugger.

OK to ride and having nasty treatment tomorrow.

4 weeks isn’t long enough to lose much… is it?

I remember doing nothing for 4 weeks then a Polaris, had one of the best rides of my life. Relatively, of course.. that was before I was training properly.

Not to be negative, but if your calf is knackered on an easy trail run……….etc etc etc

OK, so major plan borking has happened.

3 weeks ago I got a huge knot in my right calf. Couldn’t walk without pain. Saw injury specialist in Geneva who prescribed 3 weeks no running and totally ruled out the ultra. I thought I’d give it 2 weeks and see.

Unfortunately a week before the run, there is no way I can run 10k let alone 100k.

Plan B, to serve suffering on behalf of leukaemia research is to do Mayhem, then an Ultra in Mongolia in early Aug, then SITS solo. The calf is fine when cycling, it’s walking and running that hurt.

I hope this is acceptable to the masses.

I’m absolutely gutted about not being able to do Kenya, I’d trained for 6 months.

    Bummer!

    Mayhem solo?
