Bloody Shimano…..my perfectly good old 11spd XT shifter has i-spec B fitting and I want to use it with new brake levers that are i-spec EV. But doesn’t look like this is possible and I can’t find a suitable adapter (that’s cheaper than a new shifter).

    Any options that I’m missing?

As far as I know there are no adapters that will work.
you can buy new shifter covers to convert your shifter to band on though. Try SJS Cycles.

I give up. I can’t find anything that will convert my shifter to band on, other than a 3D printed thing from Etsy that I tried before, which was crap.

What I really want to do is use my ispec B shifter with a set of new ispec EV brakes.

Changing the top of the shifter seems the only option, testement to Shimano shifter durability that there’s no used spare parts going begging to help you out, bet there’s plenty broken SRAM shifters on landfill, there’s at least two from me.

I couldn’t find anything either. All the adaptors seem to go the other way – so fitting a 12 speed ispec EV shifter to older style brake levers is fine but you can’t fit an 11 speed shifter to an EV style brake

Actually, looks like the new Deore is available EV mount in 11spd flavour, everything else is now 12 spd, which I could probably convince myself was a worthwhile upgrade if it wasn’t for the cost of adding Microspline.

I spec 2 will also fit EV brakes, you just need a shorter bolt, changing the shifters top cover could be a £15 option.

Yeah, that’s what dove1 was suggesting and it does look possible, but I just can’t find the right top cover.

I’m sure I’ve managed this. I have new style XT brake levers matched to an old 11spd XT shifter. I used a Hope rotor bolt in the place of the genuine Shimano bolt.

There’s an XTR one at sjs for £15, it looks compatible and the same shape, shimanos 10sp XT, Saint an XTR were interchangeable, I put XTR top covers on an XT a few years back, maybe analyse shimanos tech docs to confirm.

I’ve got XT m8000 in I-spec b and 2, I’ll see if the top covers can swap.

As per crazyapes post, you can mate an i-spec B shifter to EV brakes by literally just shortening the spec B bolt. No other parts required.

    I’ve got an M8000 XT 11sp i-spec B shifter on my M7100 SLX i-spec EV brakes 😊

    That’s ispec 2….

Anyway, I’ve wasted too much time on this already and bought the Deore shifter, I can use the old one elsewhere. Thanks all.

@noeffsgiven thanks for the offer to check btw.

I used a cheap copy SRAM discrete clamp for £5 to mount my I-Spec B shifter to the bars. Needed a bit of a file but has worked fine for a few years. KCNC make a dedicated clamp as well I believe.

    iS rhere any solutions nowadays?

    Shifter – i-spec B

    Brake – i-spec EV

Only adaptors (not cover for shifter!).

Some shifters can be converted. Unfortunately there’s a catch, it must have a band-on top cover to use the adapter!

    A rotor bolt it seems.

@chestercopperpot, i descended this way into madness too. Used one of those zrace adaptors. The trouble I found was then the whole shifter wanted to rotate as there was only a single central point of contact.

in the end I just bought a new shifter as I should have done from the off.
