MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Can't have it though as it's a one-off custom job. Probably very spendy too!
EDIT: really don't like the name it was given, but guess that's to do with whomever commissioned it
I thought this was going to be another Kylie thread?
Nice work.
We did some engraved plates for the back of some guitars made of bog oak last month. Looking forward to seeing the finished article..
Pickups alone in that are around the $1k mark each! I'm more likely to be able to get a date with Kylie than ever afford something like that!
What's a pick up?
It's a crafty looking thing for sure.
I'm not keen on the mottled wood look, but then I ain't buying it. Often classy instruments like these rarely get played by big names to showcase them, shame really because this probably sound awesome in the right hands.
Pickup - Basically they're magnets, other bits of metal, plastic and wire. They are the things under the strings on the body of the guitar that detect the movement of the strings and turn that movement into an electrical signal. In electrical circles, they'll no doubt be known as transducers.
That's an extraordinary piece of work, just the hours spent on it would add up to a small fortune! I love the figuring in the body, that's a large burl by the look of it, and the multicoloured laminate in the neck is very striking, the Purple Heart down the centre is a lovely colour. Nice detail work with the flower inlay fret markers, and the heraldic ermin on the bottom of the neck as well.
The only bit I'm not keen on is the tapered purple piece extending from the bridge to the tail of the guitar, which is a bit fussy.
Considering how much a custom acoustic by someone like Alan Miller costs, around £2500-3000, that guitar is possibly around £4-5000, maybe £6000.
I always groan when I see a guitarist with a PRS or with 15 guitars, one or more per song.
A guitarist with an old Tele always sounds better. That's because he can hear the music better than someone with his head up his arse.
Awesome.....I'm so stupid you explained pickups to me and I still don't understand. I thought the things under the strings were called frets or something?
You live and learn.
Much respect for any guitar players on here. Wish I could play an instrument.
The ftets ate at the other end.
The pickups are down by the right hand
Imagine a microphone... kind of like that except instead of the sound waves oscillating making a signal its the metal strings oscillating that are making the signal.
Ahhhh OK...I get it now.
Apologies for being such a dullard.
My new year's resolution is to learn to play an instrument.
Any instrument, except a recorder, because surely they don't count?
At 46 am I too old do you reckon?
not for me, don't like the body and can't say I'm a fan of the fancy inlays either. still bet it plays and sounds great! 🙂
Yeah I kind of think its hideous.
But unless its a les paul junior double çut in tv yellow I'm not that interested.
The whole build process is on their Youtube channel. I'm not into guitars at all, but i watched the whole process - superb craftspersonship.

Really? Well, everyone's an expert behind a keyboard, aren't they.
I guess you're not familiar with the concept of open tuning? Instead of spending ages keep retuning one guitar between songs, a musician will have several guitars with different tunings for different songs, and may still have a guitar tech retune those as well.
Although I guess you consider Keith Richard to have his head up his ass because he uses multiple guitars with different tunings, as does Joni Mitchell, and a considerable number of highly talented singer/songwriters I've seen over the years.
But you're the expert, so I'll defer to your superior knowledge on the subject.
Odd isn't it, I don't like lead Guitars all fancy n such, yet Basses I love them to be all fancy - just like that one above ^^

You're never too old to rock'n'roll 😉
Seriously though, why not? All you need is practice.

Joe Bonamassa agrees with this post.

The boy can play a bit, that's for sure.
IMO bass is probably the easiest instrument to start learning - only 4 strings and no chords to learn. Hard to truly master but then all instruments are. Especially drums. Not just two hands to coordinate but two feet as well.
That bass above is very nice. I want a Thunderbird bass. Epiphone Thunderbird bass
I like making things but a guitar neck is a step too far. I've got a Warmoth Tele neck in may hands: a beautiful lump of maple, the C-shape I like, compound 10"-16" radius, the frets I like, satin nitro finish. It's simply perfection, and if it isn't your idea of perfection they'll make whatever you want and that'll be perfect too.
Only problem is that they're over the pond. I ordered some nice bits of wood from Warmoth over a month ago. The French Poste delivered one parcel but I'm still waiting on the other. So I now have a maple Strat neck and a maple Tele neck but the bodies are probably sitting in a heap of parcels somewhere. 🙁 Warmoth have already offered to send more bodies but I'm hoping someone finds the originals once the Christmas rush is over.
I've got one Tele that's standard but every other guitar I own is modified. I Find the Strat volume control gets in the ways so remove it and just use one tone and volume wired like a Tele. I like the old ash-tray Tele bridge so that finds its way onto all my Teles, and now onto a Strat as one of the Warmoth bodies is a hybrid so I can fit a Tele bridge with an N3, a Strat pickup in the middle and a humbucker or P90 in the neck position, all wired like a Nashville Tele.
Would you buy a mountain bike and leave the original pedals, saddle and bar width?
Don't often like Ben Crowes builds. I love the craft, I just don't like the style he builds in. The guitar above however is just beautiful!!!
I love the idea of loads of guitars. They all have a voice, and what suits one song or style won't suit another. I'm a dreadful player.. I've got 6 electrics and they all sound truly different, however they all sound like me playing them!

Don't forget the regular occurrence of string breakage: Gigging guitarists always need at least one backup, in the event of string breakage mid-song.
