Cheapskate that I am I refuse to spend more than twenty quid on a tyre.

So what are peoples experiences with cheap tyres, I'm using verts and can't really find any major problems but I'm open to ideas.

Wanna buy some more Verts? I have a pair of wire bead ones for sale for a tenner.

I fancied a tyre once but people shunned me and I nearly became a recluse 🙁

What tyre for living full of shame in a cave?

Talking of tyres I had a right game last night trying to ghetto my wire bead swampthing it took me 2 hours and about 8 CO2 canisters to get it to work. Bloody thing. Did my kevlar high roller expecting to break down in tears and it only took 10 mins.

Same rims same meathods was it the wire that made it hard or just an awkward tyre?

Bontrager XR4 (big) 2.2

Really good but they're not getting much attention! Now if they had some Germanic porn name...

Only £20 for a tyre, what kinda cheapskate are you?
I used Conti's for years & they are great for the price IMO, flawed (predicatable slides for the most part) but decent value.
Changed to slightly more expensive tyres and have found them to be better & am able to progress my riding with confidence due to them.

What's the best bargain is ppl completely hating of a set of tyres after a couple of rides, I've had a couple of sets rejected by ppl at great prices that worked fine for me, the g/f or m8's (Conti MK's, Bonty ASX, Hutchinson Bulldog's). Then other times you see ppl selling complete rubbish for almost full price, swings and round-abouts, of the STW classifieds

I have no problems with Verticals which I ran all of last winter £13.99 I'll most likey just run them all winter again.

Grippy, reasonably quick and corner very well.

I do own more expensive tyres they are all in the shed, I always seems to end up back on verts tried MK's all summer but not good now the rain has come. All my mates seem to use Fires but I no like.

I'm unconvinced that a MTB tyre for 40 quid is anything but a rip and I really don't need that level of performance if they are not. I go as fast as I'm going to ever go already!

Bring back Sauserwinds! A £20 do it all super light tyre - now out of production...

Getting on well with my Nobby Nic Evos but they RRP at almost £40 and because the sidewalls are SO "baggy" they are a complete git to get seated on the rim - seat one end, the other falls off. Repeat until extreme expletives are shouted. Brilliant once on though - super light, roll really well even on roads, seem to grip well in mud, not getting many flats at all.

Jools - I paid nearer £30. And they look nice. And my left arm is in fact a cyber arm made partly out of melted £1 coins.

I just paid £30 for UST Nobby Nics, but why wouldn't you buy decent tyres, it's the bit that connects you to the ground...

Slight diversion, I need a winter commuting tyre to put on a cross bike. Whats best, knobly Cyclo cross tyre or a winter road tyre? Anything better than Conti 4 season? I was thinking of getting the 28mm version. Its for backroads mainly especially in the wet.

Because my 13 quid verticals seem to connect me to the ground just fine.

I'm not convinced by expensive tyres is all. If I were a pro downhiller or an XC racer I could see the point of spending 40 quid for lightness or stickiness but I just ride around and my tyres seem fine for that.

If they grip on wet roots and hold a good line through a fast loose corner what more do I need?

You know of a tyre that grips on wet roots?

Where? I want!

Verts all the way.

Any suggestions for something similar but 2.1? Voodoo Wanga SS can't fit anything bigger on the back.
