I put semi slicks on my 26″ HT and cycled 100 miles in the Staffordshire countryside today. It’s a milestone I’ve wanted to have a go at for a while, the farthest I’d done before that was 83 miles. I had a great time and my mate joined me for a half of it. My head has been exploded with the amount of space and light & even the sun was came out for half of it. I now have ribs cooking and an ice cold Stella on the go.

Well done, one of the proper cycling milestones knocked off. What’s next, Alps, coast to coast, LEJOG? Time to start your winter planning.

My niece and I are going for her first century in two weeks time. She’s done a metric 100 but I told her that doesn’t count.

Closest I’ve got to that is 90 miles mainly off-road alone. It was a long day out, made more interesting by the need to get to the ferry before 6 or there would have been another 15 or so miles to add to the day!
    Well done on the achievement.

Bloody amazing! I’ve just supported my works sponsored ride, first stage of next years Tour de France! They did about 120 miles in one day on road bikes and raised £6200 for Yorkshire cancer care! If you ever feel like getting on a bike again, get some support behind you, some very good causes out there that would love someone like you! I just wish I had the fitness to do some of these off road charity events!

100 miles is a good ride. Very satisfying when you do it the first time.

Keep it up, it gets easier. You’ll soon be aiming for the double century.

(and if I can do a century, so can the rest of you regardless of how unfit you think you are)

No probs! It’s an amazing distance!
I watched, from a support vehicle, 10 men and women on road bikes do the first stage in Yorkshire! Half of them (the girls) had never ridden bikes, until 10 weeks before the big day! The men, like me just did Sunday mornings on the mtb! Great support from my company (intermarketing agency, leeds) joining cyclesceme, (think some of the road bikes purchased my be on ebay now or locked away for ever, but they all did it with just 10 weeks of training, so all you guys out there that ride every week, please look out for the charity rides, if like me you dont have as much time to ride/train due to other commitments, family etc, just support mates, make other people aware! Thanks

Nice work! Most i’ve done was 70 miles and that was on an old bighit (got lost on dartmoor) Was 16 at the time, not sure I could manage 100 even on my road bike! Like you I’ve wanted to say ive done 100 miles in a day.. but who knows if I’ll ever get round to it 🙂 Enjoy the beer 😀

Well done – it’s great to know you can cover the distance, 😀 it can get addictive. I much prefer distance over speed these days.

That some going on an MTB. I’ve not done 100 since my late teens, and a goal I want to get back to.

Thanks guys, many thanks also to the wonderful people at Sustrans who’ve put up loads of signs so that I didn’t have to get out my map very often. I also got cramps at around 92 miles so bad I had a get off and just go ‘agh agh Aggghhrrrhhh!’ something I never experienced that bad before.

This beauty. 1930s rod brake Armstrong single speed 🙂

Dingwall, Ullapool, Ledmore Junction, Bonar Bridge, Edderton

As I say, if I can do it, anyone can. I’m old and decrepit.

And just to add to the wheel debate, 28″ wheels rule 🙂

Chapeau ! I can fully sympathise with the cramp thing too!

Still looking forward to a full century! Done 90-ish miles three times now (on knobblies, mix of on road & off) but either had a time deadline to hit (get the kids tea and into bed) or been too beaten up (strained knee!) to contemplate adding the extra miles in to push it over the ton! It’ll come, just need to find a full clear day again. 🙂

Edit – I was using the wrong diameter wheels, as Epicyclo clearly demonstrates! 😀

Did 60 miles once, on my old GT Timberline, following canals around Brum & the Black Countray’.
On Tioga Psychos, so that counts as double. 🙂

    Well done OP. 😀
