hunt 6 bolt adaptors vs fairlight secan fork

Just a heads up for any other Secan owners!

I bought a second set of wheels for my Secan, hunt 4 season pro in their recent sale. As i already had a wealth of 6 bolt rotors i bought the 6 bolt adaptors. My other set of hunts has the centre lock fitting and is fine. I fitted them yesterday plus mudguards for the winter and and the wheel didn’t turn freely which i thought might just be a case of readjusting the brake calliper due to minor alignment issues…… but no it was the lockring catching on the inner part of the fork where it flares back out above the drop out. no damage to the carbon as i realised quickly but stripped some paint off. really f**cking annoying!

I think the lockings supplied are too big! so now looks like i’ll need to buy another centre lock rotor for the front and then another for the rear as they have to match.

just had an idea! i might try and remove the spacer that comes with the kit, i fitted this as it said too but now not sure its needed, this would move the lockring further in by 1/1.5mm which should then clear the fork! the rotor is an RT76 one.

any thoughts on this?

Have you tried using a ‘standard’ lockring?

I presume the one that came with the kit is the type that uses a BB tool to fit.
But if you have a spare lockring, the type that uses the cassette tool, I recon you’ll then have all the clearance you need.

I had the same on another bike, what jhbpk recommends above solved it.

I am slightly annoyed that Hunt would sell an adaptor with this type of lockring that fouls the fork, with no advisory to check clearance or anything!. I’m sure this would be the same for a lot of carbon forks.

Some carbon road disc forks have very tight clearances, hence why DT do a ‘Road’ version with a low profile lockring for 12mm axles and a ‘MTB’ version with a chunkier lockring that can handle bigger axles.

I had similar problems when building my road bike.

The lock rings which came with the rotors fouled the fork ‘bulges’

Standard locking couldn’t be tightened as the tool wouldn’t fit over the hub endcaps.

Finally solved the problem with the lock rings which come with the Shimano centre lock to 6 bolt adapter (which are thinner)
