My neighbours had some builders round today but locked them out.

They needed to use an electric cement mixer for an hour so used a plug in our house.

They offered to pay for the electricity.

How much is it reasonable to ask?

Nothing really. They are your neighbours and you have done them a favour.

Yeah I know it’s the builders who you think you were helping, but they would just have used your neighbour’s electricity. And if you had not let them plug into your socket then your neighbours wouldn’t have got the work done.

It would have used around 12p worth of electricity. You could add an admin charge.

It was the builders who offered to pay. I’ve no idea if it uses a lot of electricity and I can expect a big bill

Few years ago a chap refused to let the joiner use his electric to drill some holes to fix some double gates up, as he hadnt put it on the estimate.

So Mr Joiner had to hire a generator to power his drill,as he left and after getting paid, he locked the gates with a high security lock.

The customer asked for the keys, Mr Joiner said the lock was on his estimate, but not the keys, strangely the keys cost more than the cost of the generator.lol

PS, your neighbour should pay you if you want paying,it was him the contract was with not between you or the builders.

Yeah of course they did…….it would have been a real cheek if they hadn’t ! 🙂

    Looking at this site
    http://www.ukpower.co.uk/tools/running_costs_electricity/
it doesn’t list concrete mixer, but if you put in kettle at 3kw, which is the maximum you can run on a 13A plug, it works out at 16.5p per hour.
