Obviously not good enough for a major – unlike all those talentless, auto-tuned, x-factor types.
I don’t think many musicians give much of a toss about being on a major label any more, it’s so much easier to set up your own label, have complete control over every aspect of what you do, and arrange a deal with a distributor to help get stuff into such record stores as still exist.
Belly, for example, having come back after twenty years away, now do everything themselves, production, management, promotion, the works. It’s more work, but with everything in-house, there’s total control over budget, and nothing siphoned off by middlemen.
Kate Bush has been doing this for many years, EMI are only there for promotion and distribution.
