what’s the furthest you have cycled (on or off road) for fun – not racing, just because you felt like it – or had to get somewhere.

only rule is – in less than 24 hours.

190km… woke up one morning and decided to ride from my home town (Townsville, Australia) to Cardwell in the north, I wanted to go fishing 🙂

Took my around 10hrs or so on a MTB. Man my arse was sore after that little effort, couldn’t sit down comfortably for days! Fishing was good though 😉

At 17 – had to get home. So Whitehaven to Stockton, 118 miles on a 5-speed Raleigh with panniers via the Lakes and over the Pennines.

    I couldn’t do it now.

50 miles mostly cross country in Rhayader area of Wales. Took about five and a half or six hours. Was still clocking up 17.5 mph on the road on the last stretch home. Rode the next day too.

…and recently, 100 miles on the Kennet-Avon canal path, Reading-Bristol. That’s a good ride, too.

About 110 miles of very hot potholed road in Sudan.

110 miles on road. Wouldn’t call it “fun” though.

Off-road, not sure, as most off-road routes in the UK include a lot of road too. In terms of purely off-road stuff, it might be the Skyline trail, or the Enduro that was held there the other year, which was 30 miles – mostly on deathly dull fire road.

I was looking at the 2007 Ten Under The Ben results. The highest placed solo rider did 11 laps in 10 hours 38 minutes. That’s 110 miles with virtually no rest 😯

In one go, 94km ( Bucks 100) and was miffed it wasn’t. Otherwise, I rode Lakeland loop in 1995 on a p7 with all my camping gear on my back. Took 10 days and still wishing it wasn’t 5hours away by car 😥

North London to Bristol. About 130/150 miles the way I went, mostly on the road. Took about 15 hours. I was visiting my girlfriend.

did 149km (road) last thurs round the yorkshire dales climbing in and out of Wharfedale and the Aire valley – so plenty of climbing – something around 2,000m – longest off rd would be 75km Merida (Selkirk & Ruthin)

Reading to the south coast, woke up one sunday, fancied a ride, and just set off with the general intention of seeing the sea via a lot of country roads.

    A long time later (110 miles, 8 hours) i arrived 🙂

103 miles on a unicycle from Nottingham to Skegness in a not very direct route), 104 on the bike, a loop around Nottingham, just to see how hard it was to do 100 miles on a road bike without any training (not very as it turns out).

After doing the BHF Norwich 100m charity cycle ride on my Halfrauds Y-framed 37lb full susser I decided to ride the Devon coast to coast route. I rode from Callington in Cornwall to Plymouth & I then rode route 27 – 110 miles, 10hrs & one very sore behind later 😕 I made it to Ilfracombe. Stayed in a B&B overnight then rode back home the next day. I would like to say that it was when I was in my yoof, but alas it was only 4 years ago.

Off road probably the 35miles on the Exmoor Explorer 🙂

64 miles off road in North York Moors 11hrs including a decent rest at lunch time and a couple of mechanicals. This was back in the daysbefore decent lights were common and we found ourselves racing the onset of darkness in the mist on Rosedale Moor – aaahhhh ! Them were the days.
    110 miles (approx.) on road.
Set off to work one morning – sun was shining, slight breeze, legs felt good. Prospect of spending 8 hours in a hot factory towing my b#ll#x off was less than appealing – so I rode straight past work stopped at a phone box, called in sick, phoned the missus to tell her what i was doing and a few hours later found myself in Malham stretching out on the green eating ice cream, waiting for missus and kids to turn up. She forgot the bike rack and with the prams etc there was no room for the bike so I had to ride back. Happy days.

mtb…. no idea. never had a computer on bike and most rides are two or so hours up and then blast back down. sure the rides i did as a kid were longer, although flatter and less technical.

road…. 170km in one day using mtb and towing a BOB.

120km on friday. took the fixed bike to town to sort out some tax. saw what a beutiful day it was so carried on riding after having sorted out my tax thing at 8am. didn’t plan to ride but the sun was out, the air was clear, had a beutiful view of the alps so subconsciously (i was stoned) carried on riding south. then saw sign for munich, 60km, pointing in the other direction. so infact it was prob more than 120 as i was staying 15km the other side of the city.

    156ish miles Aberystwyth to Trowbridge.

When I got to Bath I stopped to ask directions and people were amazed that anyone would consider cycling the 18 miles or so to Trowbridge.

    and back two days later

BoardinBob, that’s not really that much of an achievement, any of the soloists in such events will do similar distances. I imagine Matt Page would put us all to shame if he cropped up!

My records are 98 miles around Coed Y Brenin off road and 104 miles on the road.
