How do you accurately weigh you bike, And before some smart ass say’s with scales, what type and method, hanging ones or your mrs’s when she is out?

Stand on the scales holding your bike. Stand on the scales not holding your bike. the difference is the weight of the bike.

    WCA+1

Being a delta measurement, it more-or-less cancels out problems with accuracy; fairly poor accuracy with spring scales.

I pick a number I want it to be, that’s the STW Massiv way. 😉

i got some super cheap electronic luggage scales on ebay 5 quid or something

we use them to weigh our baby and they always agree with the health centre scales

not sure if they are as accurate at bike weights but they are consistent and tell me my am/xc bike weighs 30lbs and by dh bike weighs 40lb

I don’t. Life is too short for that sort of nonsense IMHO.

Depends upon how accurate you want to be WCA ++1 in general me + bike + bathroom scales; more accurately go to LBS and use their digital spring scales

guess, then add a pound because you feel guilty

then take 2 pounds off because you want to look cool on here

Book a flight abroad and when you come to check in put the bike on the conveyor and hey presto you’ll have the weight.

Now you don’t necessarily have to fly anywhere but it seems a shame not so.

I’ve got calibrated electronic fishing scales, weighing up to 50lbs/25kg,in 1/2 oz or 10gm increments, put a sling on the scales, zero them, hoist the bike with the sling ,job done.

digital scales (from eBay, will weigh in 10g increments) attached to workstand via loop on scales (provides a secure and non wobbly way of holding scales)

hook of digital scales under saddle, or use a luggage strap around the frame and hooked to the scales

With a Topeak Prepstand Pro, like this:

Does 5g/0.01lb increments. Seems to consistently give weights more than people expect, so I suspect it’s accurate 🙂

Have checked it with some calibrated weights, certainly seems spot on. Not a bad workstand either!

I use a water displacement method.

Can clean the bike, then the dogs and the kids using the same bathwater.

I use my Park bike scale, some of the weights claimed around here take a bit of believing.

Old school here. Pick the bike up by the top tube and move it up and down a few times.

Park bike scales for bikes, drug scales for components.

And agree with Nick, must be accurate as my bike ‘weighs’ far more than other ‘heavier’ bikes.

ebay digital fishing scales and workstand they are accurate enough

You can get cheap luggage scales for about £5, hang the end of your saddle or a rear drop out from them. Accurate enough. Weighing yourself with and then without your bike is never very accurate, you move a bit in one direction and it’s all out.

Weigh all the parts individually, add the results together…usually in excel.

Never even tried in 20 odd years, however now I’ve read this thread I may just have to. Have often wondered out of curiosity. But I could save more weight by losing weight myself!

digital luggage scales, some peoples idea of bike weights are laughable, guy the other day was convinced his bike weighed 22lb I picked it up and said oh really, have you weighed it. Usual answer that’s the weight on the website so he believed it, he then asked if a large would be heavier than a medium, some people will believe owt

Digital hanging scales at the LBS. At least if they aren’t accurate, they aren’t accurate for my riding buddies too, so it’s all relative. I follow the ‘weigh it like you ride it’ rule, so pedals (not sure why anyone would weigh without, but apparently they do), bottle cage, computer and light brackets. It’s always disappointing and expensive in my experience.

I have some cheap and crap ebay analogue fishing scales my Enduro seems to weigh about 33-35lbs so they are accurate enough for me. If it came back at 28lbs I would be worried.

Read manufacturers spec then add 2lbs.

    Easy 😉
