So, trying to free up the barrel adjuster led to it snapping at both ends and I have very little left and I can’t get it out. Any ideas would be welcomed.

Is it screwed or riveted to the frame?

Either way, looks like it needs replacing anyway…….

Tapping/pressing a suitably sized torx into the hole should give you enough purchase to unscrew it. Once you’ve doused it in some sort of penetrating oil.

Penetrating oil and then put a nut and bolt through, tighten enough to grip and hopefully…

I’d be looking at replacing the cable guide in it’s entirety – thankfully it looks as though it’s bolted to the frame.  Even if it’s riveted, there will be a way of getting it out, but I’d ask your LBS (preferably a Colnago dealer!) to do it.

Sadly the guide is riveted and I don’t fancy trying to drill it out! LBS is no help since they are very booked up in terms of workshop time. I tried the penetrating fluid and torx method, but it’s really stuck in there. Might try soaking it some boiling water first. I’ll see if I have anything to bolt through there.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Assuming you can get a replacement I don’t see why you wouldn’t just carefully drill out and rerivet – rivet guns are cheap as chips on eBay or from any good hardware store…

Just take your time with it and start with a smaller drill than you think you need.

I’d be drilling out the guide and seeing if LOLnago will get you a new one – it’s bent and not the best design clearly.

The torque required to unscrew the seized part might damage it further (and may well be a lot tougher than the “insert a torque driver and inscrew” advice above accounts for).

So, I’ve had no luck with Colnago although Windwave sent me a pair of new barrel adjusters for free which was very good of them (but couldn’t get the guides as it’s not a listed part)

So anywhere where I might get a couple of new guides to rivet on?http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-frame-tubing/NOVA-CABLE-STOP-SINGLE-RIVET-BLK.html look quite good (could use inline adjusters,) but ideally I’d get them from the UK
