So what’s the favoured method of heating?

    Blowtorch?
    Wife’s best hairdryer?

Gentle blowtorch or vicious hairdryer action.

Boiling water, at least there’s no chance of damaging anything with it.

Can’t just pop them out with bolt and washers?

    Personally I wouldn’t go anywhere near a heat-treated metal with more heat…

My preference is to remove stuck bearing races with a dremel (other rotary tools available). It’s possible to grind out the race without damaging the frame.

You don’t go riding in the summer then?

Few degrees of sunlight is bit different to a blow torch operating at 400 deg plus. Hair dryer wouldnt produce enough heat.

Come up with some sort of press/pull device from various bolts and sockets

They aren’t stuck, it’s just that the swingarm acts as the bearing housing, so the outer race is not visible on one side. So you have to drive/force the bearing out on the inner race, which has the chances of going horribly wrong.

Was going to heat the frame a bit to make it slightly easier to get them out, whichever way I do it.

Intrigued as to how to pull with bolt/nut – would need some kind of interesting brace that allowed the bearing to come towards it….

    Heath Robinson time I think.

Or just a really big socket, maybe.

Whats to go wrong – I imagine since your taking them out you have finished with them? your only going to damage the bearing as long as your Careful

One of them is really knackered – ball bearing popping out knackered. just hope that there is enough ‘bite’ on the other balls to bring the outer race with them.

Schweet. Came out simple on the link, now for the swingarm.
