    Tyring to install a Netgear SC101 network hard drive. I’ve got a 500gb PATA HDD that it doesn’t seem to recognise, any ideas?

    yes, pata = ide.

    are the ‘jumpers’ set correctly? i.e. is it set to slave or master.

    well, i’m out of ideas.

    PATA = ATA133 = EIDE

    Similar, though some systems, particularly the network storage solutions which utilise RAID may not recognise larger capacity disks by default.

    Try a firware update? – Does the drive work on its own in a PC?

    go into your bios and poke about a bit. i’ve had to ‘enable’ a sata drive this way before ( which i thought kind of odd, but there you are ).
