    Jeez 🙁

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cycling/45503798

Hope she finds something to channel her energies into.

I read somewhere else that she’s had absolutely no contact from the Dutch cycling federation, or the guy she was in the crash with. Classy…

The Bespoke podcast with her is well worth a listen too.

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to go from being extremely active (and an elite athelete) to being disabled.

I really feel for her and hope she has a good support network – I imagine she’s going to need it 🙁

i’m pretty sure shes’s german and cottbus is in germany.

Der Speigel has an interview as well. A completely preventable tragedy.

She is German, it happened in Germany, but the other guy who was involved in the crash was a Dutch rider.

    Here you go:

Vogel said neither the cyclist who had crashed with her, nor the Dutch cycling federation had been in touch with her.

“I have had no contact with the rider,” a smiling Vogel, sitting next to her doctors, said. “Neither the Dutch federation nor the rider have been in contact.”

Apologies IHN. I wonder where the responsibility lies at a velodrome for who is on the track? the dutch rider clearly shouldn’t have been there when elite riders are practising head down sprints

Maybe the elite riders shouldn’t have been there whilst the Dutch riders were practising standing starts?

Heard an interview with her on the radio this morning (maybe an excerpt from the Bespoked podcast).  She comes across incredibly well, despite the horrible situation she’s in.  Kudos to her.

What a story. Thanks for posting.

I’ve done a bit more digging, the Dutch rider was a junior and has had some counselling, as you might expect as that must be a pretty rough situation to be in. A Dutch coach apparently has attempted to make contact but was asked to wait.

Yeah, didn’t think it would just be a straight snubbing. Horrible situation.

Not in quite the same league, but I went from wearing windproofs & trops to a wheelchair overnight when I got hit by a drunk driver.

    it sucks.

I foresee her as an inspirational coach on the track. I’m sure she’ll still be involved in the sport. What a talent. And what a tragedy.

Dreadful accident and outcome. Makes me feel incredibly lucky when I badly broke mine. Just mm from being severed. She would make a top coach.

An awful situation.  We all make mistakes but fortunately they rarely lead to situations like this for ourself and others.  I can’t imagine how the lad must feel.  You then have Katrina herself – having to come to terms with her situation – can’t imagine that either.   Have to hope and wish they are both able to move forward positively.
