For the health side of things rather than religious?

i have some kind of indeterminate arthralgia and want to discount any food sensitivities. (suspect cocoa, alcohol, beef and maybe milk). Reading a great book that proves it atleast works for some people.

Having a good clear out cant be a bad thing anyway i guess.

Want to be back upto full biking speed asap so will try any miracle cure at the moment as not of the conventional ones are working.

Was that book by Gillian McKeith? Go to your GP they will be able to test for allergies / intolerances

I used to do a 24 hours fast once a month. I was on the dole at the time, so it came in easy, but it does make you feel good.

I weighed 10 stone at the time. I’m now 15 1/2 and struggling to get down, maybe I should do some fasting again….

I once went five days without food or sleep, wasn;t anything health related tho, (just the opposite in fact)

Apparently Picolax works well for giving you a good clear out.

I used to do 36 hr fasts as a detox every month or so – not convinced it really did much good.

However if its eliminating foodstuffs then you don’t need to fast – that will make you feel odd anyway. Just avoid all possible triggers for a few days then add them back in one at a time until you find the trigger food

But be very sceptical. Food intolerances are a fave of the mcKeith type charlatans and usually its nothing to do with the foodstuff ( but not always)

As a first step, try the below.

    – knock out “white carbs” and stodge, i.e. white pasta / potatoes, white bread / flour based products (esp. pies!)

    – anything with excessive fat, i.e. chicken with skin on, pork, lamb is a no-no unless trimmed

    – feed your face on green leaves, they rock. Particularly with a nice balsamic and mustard dressing

    – carrots are good as are cashews and brazil nuts

    – all fish is good unless it is surrounded by an inch of batter and accompanied by chips. In this case it is bad

    – veg NOT fruit

    – If you feel the need then black coffee and red wine work

I occasionally get lethargy and / or refulx / general malaise, The above with plenty water works for me*

I would have thought that the best way would be to talk to an allergy expert to see what you react to. Then you might want to remove/change the diet one foodstuff at a time.

    Doctor Gillian McKeith ?
Or, to use her full professional title, Gillian McKeith.

One of my colleagues did some sort of faddish health fast thing, no food for 3 days I think it was. It made a difference all right, she was a right crabbit cow all the time and kept screwing up her work. She was convinced there were benefits but couldn’t quite decide what they were, if you asked her twice in a day you’d get 2 different answers.

seriously though, fasting is just a waste of time, you’re gonna go back to normal you the moment you stop. what do you really want to change??

It’s so easy. No idea why but I often do it involuntarily. I wake up and don’t feel hungry. Even if I cycle to work and back I still don’t fancy eating. Regular basis. Say once every two months. No food for 24 hours at least, usually about 36, and then only because I realise I’m running out of fuel and should really eat something.

Plus I can quite happily do massive rides without eating. I actually forget to eat. I think the most was about 85 miles and then I realised I’d not eaten since the day before so had an emergency packet of Randoms and clinched the century.

    Thanks.
The main reason for the fasting part of this is to try and fix the inflammation and joint pain, at 82kg and 6’2 I dont need to lose any weight. Once the body stops having to digest food it is meant to do a bit of house keeping and clear toxics/fix things etc… .
Dieticians can test far more accurately for allergy than intolerance, I have never had an allergic reaction or noticeable problem with any food or environment. Various viruses can create short term intolerance etc….

My diet is already pretty good but for the next week or two I am going to eliminate alot of possible problem foods. As I am targeting the arthralia the recommended lists are slightly different to the above but similar. This will be painful as I enjoy eating far more than necessary and spending alot of time in Italy means the whole focus of life is based around eating.

The book mentioned previously is by Barbara Allen, its definately interesting and she makes it very clear she isnt a doctor. I had no interest in anything like this until the problems started meaning I couldnt open doors due to pain in my hands, major hip pain, having to sleep for 11hrs a day etc……. .

The re-manning up process will begin once most symptoms have disappeared.

Yes once a month for religious reasons. Always ate like a king straight afterwards. See a specialist in my opinion.

i have followed a more or less macroboitic diet for years its kind of vegany wholegrainy beany sort of a thing with the odd fast here and there.
i reckon it took around eight months to feel a difference.
i did it real strict for about two years and then made things more broad, bit of fish here and there bit of dairy etc.
    sorted me out anyways

I fasted for Ramadan years ago with a muslim friend. We were both going off the rails and it was a good excuse to sober us up before we went too far.

My boss doesn’t eat on Thursdays for quasi religious/cultural reasons. He reckons it has benifits but admits it’s mainly mental in a kind of low grade anorexia kind fo way of proving to yourself/body that you can go without food.

I fast every day, between meals…

In fact the quote ‘my stomach thinks my throats been cut’ was made for me – always hungary, no matter what I eat.
