After years away from the fun and scariness of HT's Ive decided that the pain of proper full suss maintenance just isnt for me so I want a new frame to build up

The thing is theres loads of choice and I cant decide

All I know is that I will be sticking a 130-140mm fork on it and going for a light-ish XC build
Im not doing the Alps and Im too chicken for mahoosive drops these days 🙂

So guys and gals give me your best pub talk prejudice and flannel
Six words max only per bike please
And if anyone actually knows what I should buy all the better LMAO

    Soul (looks perfect)
Ragley's (look like tractors – sorry Brant)
    Hummer
456 (love the Ti but prob more hardcore then I need)
    Chameleon

    Etc etc etc

i just sold a marin rocky ridge frame but id heartily recommend one. it felt almost identical geo wise to my old chameleon but had a bit more give at the back and no faffy ebb/slidey dropout.

i love my sovereign, with 130/140 fork it has near perfect trail geo IMO, 68 h/a, decent reach etc but is built to handle far more. its not the lightest frame though so could well be overkill really.

If you`re not doing massive drops and want lightweight do you really need 130-140mm forks……..?

I have a Chameleon would highly recommend one, done 60mile races to a week downhilling in the alps… wouldn't say that getting 140mm forks is pointless buuuuut, I have uturn pikes and the bike handles better at 120mm (bike is warrentied up to 150mm)… so would suggest getting 120mm reba's… over heavier 140mm ones.

For general riding I run 120mm maxle reba's on my 456Ti, great ride, but just try a steel 456 to see how it goes – cheap enough.

    130-140mm and lightish XC????

If you want 130-140mm, from your list:

2008 Hummer – Best bike I've owned (Until)
    2010 Hummer – Blows the 08 away

If 120mm will do – Genesis Altitude – very impressive, somewhere between above 2

If you're running 130-140 forks up front, I reckon you need a steel frame (sweeping enough?!)

2010 Hummer really that much better? I thought it was pretty much the same geometry, only asking as I'm tempted

Go and ride them and see which you prefer the feel of. Then go and buy a Prince Albert.

    All good advice
Particularly those who keep to the 6 word rule LOL

    Current dilemmas:

There are too many choices to test ride them all

Why is a Soda over £1000 more than a Soul?

Whats the difference between all those Ragleys?

How badly do I want a Lynskey?

OT: Peak or Cannock tomorrow 🙂 ??

    Not badly enough
Macc/Three Shires Head area of Peak (ever been?)

Go for steel (853 is worth it), 100-120mm corrected and stick an adj travel fork on (sounds like you'll rarely need 130mm). Pick a nice colour.
