    Hi all

    Need some help folks.

In the lakes for the Xmas hols but does anyone have any gpx maps handy for Grizedale?

I’ve done the North face trail there but didn’t enjoy it and thinking there must be some better off piste routes.

You’re in The Lakes and can only think of riding in Grizedale?

    Sheeesh.

    Here’s the entire SE Lakes:

Hmm there are lots of things to ride but without a good route you can end up doing a really shit days carrying up and down…

Bog trotters site is useful for routes. Also the guide book is worth picking up.

Even in Christmas Day, first response is a criticism. Only on STW….

Anyway, grizedale forest is one of the best areas to ride in the lakes, as suggested above by Mike, bogtrotters site has a great rides section, my advice would be to try and ride as many bridleways as possible, and don’t miss parkamoor down to tibberthwaite (I think!) as that’s a cracker.

You could also tie it into the trails above coniston, but I hear walna scar is still shite after the sanitisation a few years back.

Have a great time, I love the lakes. A few of my mates try and get me to go to wales for a weekend (from SW Scotland) but I just refuse to drive beyond the lakes!.

I’ll do you a gpx or two if you email me. It will be some of the best riding in the lakes, so ignore the misery guts!

    Would be tomorrow though.

    Just zapped you an email.

Thank you guys for the replies. To be honest anywhere else in the lakes would be of interest as long as it’s out side of whinlatter and Staveley as riden those previous.

Out of interest what would you recommend?

Just look for white unclassified roads, green dashed bridleways and green diamond RUPPs or whatever they’re called. Work out a circular route and enjoy it. The area just to the north of the Ambleside – Coniston road has some super scenery.

The second of those looks the best.

The 3rd is very similar to the 2nd (the 1st half is identical). It just takes in what I hope is a slightly better decent into Little Langdale

I’ve marked the start of the best and best known ‘off-piste’ descents in the immediate Grizedale Forest area with luverly crude red dots, and the green line with the arrow indicates the direction.

There are many, many more, but you get the idea. You can use the first section of the NF trail to gain height, that’s probably the best way.

    Merry Christmas.
