same here – we’re swapping our tickets for Kiss.

Yeah I probably would have done but I already have Maiden tickets for 28 June in Leeds and I have seen Kiss many times going right back to the ‘Lick It Up’ tour (the one where they first performed without the make-up – with Bon Jovi supporting) and I just can’t stomach £140 for a single headliner gig.

Just back from seeing Cold Comforts at MASH Macclesfield. Fantastic gig. If you can make any of their other dates you won’t be disappointed 🙂

Couldn’t make it to yellow arch to see skinny pelembe on Thursday after all but suep at delicious clam last night were great. Such a fab vibe in that place. Only when the band climbed on stage did we realise they’d been along side us singing and dancing to the support acts all night!

Very tempted by Field Day. Bonobo, Moderat and Jon Hopkins, all of whom I have seen before, plus Aphex Twin who I haven’t. Big day out.

Pip Blom last night. Very enjoyable, not the best gig ever but all live music is good.

I love my local IMV but it was just too busy last night. It’s a weird shape for a music venue, sort of L-shaped with the stage being in the foot of the L and the bar at the top, so you can’t really see unless you’re opposite the stage. Capacity is presumably set on total size but there was just too much pushing to get to see the stage and a few nob heads that stand at the bar and then just force their way in when the band come on.

Lost Map’s 10 year all-afternoon/evening-er at Oran Mor yesterday/last night. Good stuff from Susan Bear and nice to hear Ballboy again, but a brilliant closing set by Free Love. Amazing, not what I was expecting! MIssed Pictish Trail because we went for something to eat instead. Next time they should put on a buffet!

The night before was James Yorkston and the Second Hand Orchestra. It was alright (too cheerful for my liking!) but being part of Celtic Connections had a bit of an odd audience. People basically wearing hillwalking gear! Every year it happens at Celtic connections, I wonder where those people go the rest of the year. Probably walking in the hills.

Young Fathers in Brighton… 2 hours of driving for 45 mins of music. hmm, not sure. I guess it was cos it was an “outstore” gig, but they aren’t usually that short!

Chalk was rammed, I had a good spot near the front but barged my way out when they finished and it was a right swim through the bodies! Crap place for those who don’t get a spot in front of the stage cos it’s all off to the side. First time I saw Young Fathers was about 40 people at the Green Door Store, so I think they’re a bit too popular for me now 😛

Jockstrap next Monday. Another sold out one.

Just booked to see Sleeper in Leeds in May – one of my favourite bands but one that seeing live has eluded me until now (was due to see them in 2020 which a bat eater kinda scuppered!). Can’t wait… that’ll leave just one of my favourite bands left to see live but since they rarely leave Texas, thats going to require some more planning!

Also got the Bluetones coming up at a tiny venue in York which will be ace. Seen a few times live now, at seemingly ever smaller venues which get better and better…

Colin Hay in the Old Fruitmarket Glasgow last night. Absolutely fantastic night’s entertainment, very funny stories and still has the voice and great new songs. Two or three Men at Work songs as well.

Didn’t he announce his retirement from touring a short while ago? You have probably just cost me £50+ quid and a trip to Bristol next Tuesday! 😀

I’m glad I made the effort with such short notice – he was very good. Still has a great voice, is an excellent musician and is very funny. It cost me significantly more than £50 because I took the afternoon off, had a puncture so needed a new tyre, and traipsed around the few guitar shops left, and then had some food before the gig. Overall, a good day, apart from the puncture.

First time ever to the 100 Club on Oxford Street to see a three band show / album launch party.

First up Press Release. I can’t link you to them or anything they’ve done because they’ve chosen a pretty ungoogleable name!

The Scrounge who I’ve mentioned before but were good again. Friend of a mate’s band and hence why I was there.

And then Italia 90. All of who are clearly too young to remember Italia 90. And definitely are not ‘inspired by’ the music and loose fit vibe of the era. I’d describe the singer as ‘brooding’ even though he was clearly having a good time. The crowd was vigorous, clearly have a small but passionate following. All told – not 100% my cup of tea but miles better than a night in front of the TV, never turn down the chance to see a live band.

Nipped through to see Mull Historical Society in Glasgow, always going to be a good show and he was playing the albums Loss and Us which are just bloody amazing records. First song was a total car crash but luckily the rest of the band came on and steadied things. Absolutely incredible setlist, only marred a wee bit by a really rubbish Celtic Connections crowd of lots of just really rude old bastards. Bloody nightmare even getting to the bar never mind moving around in teh crowd.

Titus Andronicus in Edinburgh on tuesday… Support band Jade Hairpins were solid, TA were sparks of genius in a too-short set. (also if I’m honest I absolutely love their first 2 albums, not so keen on the newer stuff so I’d have loved to have heard a bit more of that). But, still really good, just not as good as it could have been with, oh, 5 or 6 more well chosen songs.

Just noticed I’ve got Foals in April.. don’t even remember buying the ticket! They’re ok, only really like the 1st few albums, but hey, live guitars n that.

Goat a couple of weeks before that. They were fab last time, 5ish years ago.

Off to see these chaps in Leeds in March. Have a spare ticket if anyone fancies it.

Saw the ‘Gwai on Thursday, and very good they were too. Less Young Team/CODY than I expected though, given those have had special re-releases recently.

Oh yes, and Braniac in support, playing in the UK for the first time in 25+ years

Last night saw Legend. If you like Bob Marley you must see them.

Another one for Mogwai and Brainiac, this time on Sunday night in Gateshead. I thought Mogwai played the gentlest set I remember, almost in a reflective atmosphere. Somewhat embarrassed to say I was only vaguely aware of Brainiac before the gig was announced, but I also was impressed. Thought they deserved a better than half empty support slot.

Jockstrap in Oxford done Monday night. They’re pretty amazing, what a singer… so the clubs are gonna get bigger than the 400 capacity Bullingdon, which was packed. I doubt I’ll see them again.

Just got tickets for a band whose name I don’t know how to pronounce! Xiu-Xiu – my kinda weirdness at my kinda venue, Green Door Store in June. Awesome.

This will probably be of interest to some – S Club 7 are only coming back to do 25th anniversary shows!
Tickets for the O2 London are available between £213.40 and £255.50 (I think that’s each) Holy shite.

Frank Turner for about the millionth time last week in Southampton and like @Northwind said, I think it was the best full bad show I have seen. Tight as a tight thing and the set list was well thought out. It was a family affair and the new uni student (daughter) insisted I take her to the front which meant being on the periphery of the circle. Quite an experience for a 50yr old with a dodgy back.

Anyone seeing Pitchshifter in Bristol in July? Tiny venue and already sold out. Really looking forward to it.

Wish I was! Please Sir will be absolute death down the front. And then Jon jumps on your head.

(they’re a weird one, Pitchshifter, they’re kind of always bubbling away but we get like one festival show or a couple of club shows every so often, there’s obviously a demand for it (and when pendulum and the prodigy were riding high that seemed pretty much like an invitation…) but I guess they just don’t want to do more than they do?)

^^ great live 🙂 Been trying to see them but they are playing tiny venues and I didn’t see til too late. Last time I saw them they were the support for Dale Barclay’s lot in a tiny bar in Southsea. What a gig 😀

recently saw Dance Gavin Dance in southampton, very enjoyable, although there wasnt much interaction between the band and the crowd. My missus was pleased as they played ‘Man of the year’ which she loves.

And booked tickets to see Trivium later this year, which should be a belter!

IAMX are doing just one date in the UK which is October 30th at the Islington Academy. I saw them the last time they toured here five years ago so definitely wasn’t going to miss this one.

Elvana at Leeds o2 Academy this weekend. This should be fun.

Also going to see Gary Delaney on Wednesday but I guess that doesn’t count for this thread.

@v7fmp you’re in for a treat especially with bleed from within supporting. Seen Trivium many many times, they were brilliant in January at Manchester Victoria warehouse (and just watched gojira there Sunday night too). I’ve got tickets for Leeds in September at a much smaller venue should be ace.

Nearly bought x2 tickets for Peter Gabriel as he’s announced new date in Nottingham so easy to get to for us without staying overnight.

The 2nd cheapest tickets, not in row Z – comes in at nearly £280 with fees (for 2). I just can’t bring myself to spend that sort of cash for maybe 2hrs of entertainment.

Saw Mogwai & Brainiac on Saturday night, absolutely stupendous. Recently started going to smaller venues to see more new music, saw Oliver Beardmore supporting Swim School, both were excellent, I think the chance is seeing Swim School in a venue that small again is pretty slim, destined for bigger thing I reckon.
    Got the Lathums next month.

That is absurd – I had similar recently (as mentioned above) for Kiss tickets. There is no way I am paying that sort of money for, as you say, a couple of hours.

I hope more people start to think like that about the ridiculous ticket prices for the old dinosaurs!
Gabriel was **** embarrassing back in the 80s, let alone now he’s in his 70s!

You could get a couple of S Club 7 tickets for that and still have enough for a bag of pick and mix.

just back from seeing pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs at lincoln drill hall.

sound wasnt the greatest, bit muffled, but then again from listening to their records theyre a bit like that anyway.

really enjoyed them tho, charismatic lead singer, guitarists plenty noisy enough, whats not to like.
