Gift for Singapore resident?

Apparently florists in Singapore are awful so any other suggestions for gifts that can be ordered online in the UK for local delivery to an address in Singapore?

What’s the occasion/purpose?

There are a couple of decent wine merchants in Singapore that would almost certainly take an order from you. I’ve used Merchants, in Tanjong Pagar to send a thank you bottle in the past.

wine is our go to, gift or dvds. Vegemite is highly prised by our relatives too, so assuming your recipient is normal that would be marmite.

Marmite is easily available! Marketplace at Raffles City, for example.

Snowglobe.

British chocolates and biscuits is what I’m always asked to bring in on my visits there. Cadbury’s, Thornton’s, shortbread, Jaffa Cakes etc. Not sure if it is because they can’t get it over there or it’s silly expensive.

Background of the recipient?

I imagine the chocolate thing is the same as in thailand.you can get kitkat etc but it doesnt taste the same.
Togoparts is a good cycle site,you can probably get things delivered from there

All the Cadbury’s chocolate is made in Australia I think, doesn’t taste any where near as good.

There are some very good florists, I’ve used one at the bottom of Orchard towers near Jason’s a couple of times, which I think is superb and fairly reasonably priced.

I’ve not used a wine merchant before but have bought wine as a gift, it’s really expensive compared to the UK – Bottle of Villa Maria Pinot Noir is around $60! But, you can get some cheaper.

One thing I have bought is single estate chocolate from a company called Hello Chocolate Great service, reasonable prices and really good quality chocolate.

I even ordered myself some 🙂

Edit, when I go over I quite often ‘smuggle’ chewing gum in my luggage. I have to chew on something when I’m driving there as it’s **** chaos. I always offer it around the guys in the lab and everyone of them refuse. It’s like I’m offering them smack.

Suggestion, how about a takashimaya gift card?

I’ve used Interflora to deliver flowers to Singapore before and the quality was good but it was expensive.

CRC/Merlin/ASOS does free delivery although some have minimum order values (e.g. CRC 130GBP). Amazon/TaoBao/DX/etc offer cheap delivery. Qoo10/Lazada are the local online shopping portals.

We had some Saffron buns sent from the bakery in Cornwall to my brother when he lived there…..

I have to chew on something when I’m driving there as it’s **** chaos.

Although, I did see a taxi turtled on the ECP a few months ago!

To be honest I prefer the MRT, some of the taxi drivers are awful. But driving is also a bit of a thrill.

No – ex-pat Brit living there via Aus – just to say thanks for taking care of my kids for a few weeks

The ex-patriot UK folks I know in Singapore and Hong Kong usually say that the things they miss most, and that are hardest to find are…..

Cheddar. Properly mature, crumbling, bitingly sharp tasting cheddar.
Chinese takeaway. I know, mad, isn’t it? However, a sweet and sour chicken from a takeaway, or even a Waitrose Fakeaway, is a totally different thing to all the lovely food over there. They miss it!

Proper, fresh, soft bread is what I miss. Something like Warburton’s toastie (Binners would hate it here).

You can get nice bread, but a properly soft white loaf is impossible to find.

I love cheese but hardly ate any whilst living there too hot and humid. Alcholol is very expensive due to taxes and many wines are “off” even screw tops due to poor storage. LeeW I think they struggle with making bread due to the humidity, definitely impacts any attempts at home baking.

OP what does the person like ? How about booking a dinner somewhere special ? TBH when I lived there eating out was the norm and for many residents the highlight of the day / week. That and booking flights away for the weekend.

I’ll try and remember this! I’m in Singapore a fair few times a year, and might be able to open up a lucrative supply line! (First jar in exchange for a cold one at Brotzeit?)

If they like cheese I second CaptainFlashheart’s suggestion – maybe Keen’s/Montgomery’s cheddar and Colston Bassett/Cropwell Bishop/Stichelton stilton. A visit to Neal’s Yard if you’re in London?

AFAIK quality cheese isn’t available in Singapore
