is that as in a standard 11/8-1.5 taper or is the stem (top of steerer) over sized too?

I thought it was 1.5 to 1 1/4 or something stupid, so you need different stems.

Overdrive 2 is 1.5″ at the bottom and 1 1/4″ at the top, so you need a different (again) size stem!

Currently there are 3 make of stem to fit.
Giant ,either heavy and cheap or a bit lighter and overpriced.
Syntace, good luck getting hold of one.

flipping heck, so no ordinary tapered forks and stems i’ve got in the shed would be useless then, way to go Giant, purchase cancelled

Normal tapered forks will fit the frame (and OD2 forks will fit any tapered headtube). They just use a top bearing with a slightly larger bore (same O.D).

so normal tapered headset will fit?

Are you buying a frame or a complete bike? It’s possible to put in a normal 1 1/8th top headset cup in and fit tapered forks and normal stems.

looking at frame only now yes, cheaper to buy a full bike i know, but that headset standard is too limiting to future upgrades and lets face it, who wouldn’t tinker with forks/stem etc?

    rocketdog,
My Trance 29er has the overdrive 2 1.5-1.25 inch taper but depending on a few things may be swapped out for a standard 1.5-1 1/8th taper fork.
AFAK you juts replace the top of the headset with a standard 1 1/8th headset.

RDog my 2012 anthem 29er (frame only purchase) is an overdrive steerer tube but it came with the headset supplied to fit either a 1 1/8 – 1.5″ tapered or 1 1/8″ non tapered using the spare crown race supplied.

So as smartmonkey says if not supplied with the required headset then just swap to the headset you need.

    This might be usefull? http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/psa-giant-overdrive-headsets-much-cheapness

Have you ridden one? Weird geometry.

Oh and 135 QR, no ISCG yet a pointless headset standard. Some strange priorities at Giant.

I demo’d one yesterday (usual FS is a Zesty) and wasn’t too convinced although need to take one on tougher trails to make my mind up. It was good going downhill but didn’t seem as fast or as fun as the Zesty on the flat or climbs (despite being lighter). The rear seemed really flexy to, not just from the wheel either.
