I have to fly in to Heathrow tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately there are no seats on the connections to Newcastle until the afternoon, so I am going to get the train.

When I google it, there seems to be a few different options for getting to Kings Cross, Underground, train, bus, all seem to come up.

At the moment, I am thinking of getting the train to Paddington and then a taxi to Kings Cross. Is that the quickest and most straight forward option?

    Any other suggestions?

Circle line or Hammersmith & City line goes straight between Paddington and Kings Cross, it’ll be cheaper and I suspect quicker than a cab. That’s what I’d do anyway.

    To slow clearly.

I am not paying for the taxi and I have luggage.

Is the underground still the best option?

If you want to spend less than a fiver and have loads of time, you can get the Piccadilly Line all the way.

    HEX is £25 / £37 return.

Doesn’t the Piccadilly line go Heathrow>King’s Cross? That’d surely be the most straightforward. Not all that quick though.

Like jimw says. How much luggage? More than 2 bits or heavy and I’d be inclined to let the firm pick up the tab for a taxi. Way too spendy if you’re paying.

Picadilly Line from Heathrow is sllloooowwww and depressing.

I once walked between Paddington and KingsX after a morning flight. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Don’t get a taxi. It’s lazy, more expensive, causes congestion and is no quicker.

If a lot of luggage, HEXP then taxi. If not, as above.

As above Piccadilly line from lhr to kings x if you’ve time it’s probably the least faffage, just get on and stay sat till kings cross but about fifteen minutes longer than Heathrow express and tube option

No Circle/Ham & City/Met line between baker st and Liverpool st this weekend so either taxi from Paddington or Picadilly line is your best bet.

Picadilly Line would be my choice.

    Not that quick, but easy.

I decided on the straight forward Picadilly line option last time I went that way.

Especially LHR to KGX it was a breeze – just watch out on the return leg as there can be big queues at the KGX entrance to the tube – this may or may not be better than any queues for the heathrow express.

Depends how much time you’ve got. Lots of time: easiest and cheapest is just the Picadilly Line. Otherwise Heathrow Express and Hammersmith or Circle line.

If all goes to plan you can do it in 40 minutes but you need to be lucky with timing.

No air conditioning on the Picadilly line, obviously, so I’ve not used it this summer.

Probably not a factor, but note that HEXP does not serve T4, and it can be a long wait for the transfer from T1/2 to T4.

Picadilly line is an hour. Termnal four is served by different trains to Terminal 5. Its easy. Heathrow Express will save you 25 very expensive minutes. Taxi will be about fifty pounds and not hugely faster.

    Thanks for all the advice.

I really need to catch the 0930, if I can, so I will train it to Paddington and then jump in a cab to Kings Cross, that seems to be the quickest.

This, it’s £3.40 and takes an hour, no changes and shit loads less expensive than the other options (and by the time you’ve changed to the Heathrow Express it doesn’t even take that much longer).

Is that the express? 3hrs to Newcastle? I’d be tempted to stay at LHR and take a chance on standby with a booked flight later – they bumped me up 3 flights when I came in from Oz

Don’t use the Piccadilly Line between 07:30 and 19:30, I’ll be at work! 😀
