Furniture making. Connecting metal rod to timber sheet.

I’m trying to finish off a piece of furniture from my university days and I’ve become stuck on the name of the bit I need to connect the frame to the seat.

It’s a little fixing that clamps the 10mm metal rod to a timber seat base.

Something like the drawing below (drawn upside down for clarity/confusion)

Lesgrandpotato, 18 pages of the Hafle catalogue would suggest it isn’t. Can’t believe I went through them just in case.

Andyl, thanks. Bit more industrial than I was looking for though. Really after something small, plastic, black and neat. If I was to make one out of wood it would be shocking. My ‘making’ skills are somewhat lacking.

Earthing and lightning conductor uses 10mm rod and has clamps to hold them tight to surfaces, but I don’t know whether they would have the look you want.

Could you not just bend a strip of metal and drill a couple of holes in it?

You could use 2 of those things tony linked to on each side – ie 4 per bar. Just have one with the screw on the front and the other on the back and butt them up to each other with 2 per side.

The stauff clamps won’t be very big for a 10mm bar and are quite rigid plastic so low give. They are green though.

Should be easy to make an omega shaped metal clamp out of some stainless steel though.
