    Hi,

I’m looking for 27.5 hardtail or FS frame suggestions for putting a set of 26+ wheels into.

    (50mm rims and 3″ Tyres)

Not looking for anything to heavy or DH related.

Idealy something 27.5 which has great chainstay clearance.

    Any ideas welcome!

    Surly Instigator?

May weigh as much as a small car, mind you.

Hi, yes I saw the Instigator, it was somewhat the inspiration for this project build.

That and finding out that stans make these rims.

    With some tyres like these.

The obvious choice is the Surly 1×1. Lighter and handier than the Instigator.

It’s always had clearance for big tyres, and a set of Dirt Wizards results in a really nice bike.

You can even stuff a Fat B Nimble in the front, but it’s better with DWs f&r IMO.

    This is my mate’s 1×1

Banshee Spitfire will do it – tons of tyre clearance!

Yeah Spitfire. Also takes 26″ specific dropouts should you want to fit ‘normal’ tyres.

Thanks for the replies, I like the colour coded rims too.

So are the 1×1’s pictured designed for standard 27.5 or are they made for running fat 26”s?

Forks wise: you’re probably fine with most rigid forks, but a 3.0 knard on a hugo goes nicely in a cromoto:

26″, but Surly like huge tyre clearance.

Satori Bullbar or One23 Minotaur, may also be known as Smooth Drop.

Their benefit is that they are mtb diameters so mtb levers etc, fit. Just enough of a drop so you can hook in. You could get much the same positions with flats and bar ends, but wouldn’t get the hook.

The 1x1s were designed for 3″ tyres right from the start (in 1998!)
