Fox 36 Van r: What do you weigh and which spring are you using?

I’m around 14.5 stone in my riding gear and currently using the standard (blue, I think)spring. Most of the time it feels great, but maybe a bit divey at times. I have no compression damping to adjust, but have used thicker oil, but I’m now considering using a firmer spring. The fox chart does say I should use heavier, but these guides are often way out. So as per title please.

Using 1 softer than recommended for my weight as with recommended spring I wasn’t getting anywhere near full travel…

When I had some van 36 (rc2’s, though I used very little comp damping) I was also 14.5 stone and needed the firm spring. The medium was ok for general trail riding but anything else it felt crap.

I will give the firm a go, as with you mildred the medium is fine for trail stuff, but on big drops and anything not landed smoothly it was bottoming out a bit too much.

Get the next one up. Pretty much the same weight as you and I prefer it. May not use full travel every ride but feels a lot more stable on the brakes. Quick swap over if you want to change it for different rides.

I’m maybe 80kg all up riding weight? Got a pair of 09’s van Rs I think, original spring, spot on for me. HTH

With riding gear on I am 17 + stone unsurprisingly I use heavy weight springs on drops and stuff / alps I am getting full travel awesome forks mine are 5 years old and have done many many 1000,s of miles

12 stone / 75 kg . Bottomed out the medium a couple of times on my 180mm in the alps.

2006 RC2. 210 lbs without kit. Standard medium spring. 35mm of sag (not really enough to balance with the rear of the bike).

I get full travel but I’ve never noticed any harsh bottoming. Having said that, I’ve never noticed the compression damping make much difference either. I’ve read that you only really notice a difference if you max them both out.

Does anyone do custom tuning on Fox 36 forks? I’m tempted to try removing the bladder from the cartridge, running it as an open bath. More viscous oil for more compression damping and a higher oil height to ramp it up at the end. Might even then be able to find a spring that gives the right sag.

I always use one spring softer than the fox chart says for my weight on my 36 van rc2’s & my 32 vanillas. I find the recommended springs too hard.

As far as I know you can get them Push tuned at TF tuned

Anyone tried the push tune on them? I was less than impressed with the push tune on my dhx 5.0 coil.

I was considering the custom tune route, but will try the firm spring first.

How much sag are you getting with the standard spring?
