    Ok, off a 2013 Bizango.

Think they are formula hubs. Got the axle out and the 2 6000 2rs bearings. Can’t take cassette off as I’ve had to order an 11mm Allen key (wtf?!).

Was a tiny amount of play in the axle before disassembly but the bearings feel pretty good actually.

The question: Do you use the two lock nuts on each end of the axle to cinch up the bearings, just like you do with a loose bearing setup?

Or was the play a sign that the bearings were indeed on the way out?

Cheers….. Been using Hope hubs for years so not sure about this set up.

They only need to be hand-tight / remove play – if you crank them up too tight you’ll overload the bearings leading to premature wear.

But their purpose is to remove play in the bearings?

    I think I am over thinking this.lol.

Assuming its like the ones I have done, there are locknuts like a cup and cone hub to adjust bearing preload, 2 sealed cartridge bearings, one pressed into the disc side hub shell, one pressed into freehub, freehub is non serviceable (like shimano but with a seat for a cartrdige bearing rather than a cup for loose bearings).

Adjust as cup and cone, lock the drive side when its apart, adjust using the disc side, I would suggest having play and tightening until there is just no play to prevent excessive bearing preload.

The drive side bearing is installed on the axle, then locknuts tightened, then pressed into the freehub using a tube.

^^ Spot on bigyan, that’s exactly how the hub is made up, huge thanks for the info! Looks like the bearings were probably ok and I just needed to preload them properly. Doh!

One last question, if I can remove the freehub can I access the teeth/ springs to clean them/ grease it all up?

    Thanks!

Its a non serviceable freehub, will look like this if you take it off

Thanks again, it’s working ok so I’ll leave it be.

    Cheers!
